  • BRAT has a group that help transport b's.
I don't know if they will be able to help you with this, but you can sure ask.
There is also an airlines that fly dogs, and they do a great job.
So, good luck..do let us know how it goes.

  • Jaroufa,

Several forum members volunteered to help you out unfortunately your mailbox is full and we are unable to send you their contact info privately.

Please email admin@basenjiforums.com with an alternate email or phone and we will pass it on to forum members who volunteered to help you.

  • Kathryn now has Quinn! Thank you all for your help offers and concern.

  • Hi Dan,
Quinn is home with me and now the long task of helping him settle in.He is very frail and in need of a little TLC.I will try hard to make him feel welcome.

    Kathryn

  • I'm sure you will do an excellent job with him Kathryn. Thanks!

  • Best news i've had all day! :) Hope all goes well Kathryn. Please keep us posted and post some pics when you have time.

Here, here! Glad to hear he made it to you….keep us posted on his progress.

  • Kathryn your a very special person. So very kind you have a great heart. I could never give up one of my animals no matter how old. I cannot give up even when they leave us and go over. My children are my children but we also have four legged children. Forgot one, two legged the parrot. Hope all is well. Let all of us know and pictures please.

  • Kathryn - I'm happy for you and Quinn.
People are so helpful, and it means so much when they lend a helping hand to rehome a rescue.

    Bless you.

  • Go teamwork to get Quinn to his forever home!! I love this forum - and the love that passes between strangers, all stemming from a curly tail=)

  • Would like everyone to know that Quinn is already settled here and making himself at home.He loves to eat the raw diet that I feed here and I'm sure that he will put on some much needed weight. He seems to be a sweet little soul and sits and looks lovingly too me for a cookie.
My other B's seem to except him especially Classy who has found a quick friend.
He is no trouble at all and the little bit of meds he takes is no problem and at night he wears a male wrap for leaks. All in all,I will give him the much needed TLC that he deserves.

That is great, glad to hear that he is fitting in so well….. curious about his "leaking" problem.... is it just when sleeping?... do you think he might have an UTI?... since he is only 13, bit early to be having problems holding his urine.... or is that the reason that the previous owners decided to place him?

  • Happy for all of you we are having Christmas in Aug.

    Rita Jean

  • Kathryn, this makes me so happy :)I hope he has many long years with you and your family. Glad he's found a friend in Classy. What is a male wrap please? In the past we had a problem with a Leaky Basenji boy.

  • Pat,
Yes,I think that his leaking might have been a reason that his owner didn't want him anymore. That and he is on meds for seizures.I haven't test stripped him yet but his father is affected, don't know about mom.He doesn't drink to much and he only leaks at night.

A male wrap is like a diaper for a male dog,it just goes around there waist with a pad inside. They're great for keeping males dry.

    Kathryn

  • Thanks Kathryn, i wish we'd known about the wraps when we had Benji, he used to leak when he slept. Coincidently he has seizures as well.

  • I am so pleased that Quinn has found a lovely home, you are a special person to take him on.

  • Kathryn - I adopted a senior basenji girl once. She was hiding in a schoolyard near here, bit the dog catcher, then was put on death row. BRAT called me and I adopted her. She was so distraught, but I nursed and loved her back to health, and she gave me 3 great years of joy to my life. No one had ever loved me that much before. You have done a wonderful thing.

  • Just found this thread. First page made me cry, subsequent pages also made me cry, for a completely different reason.
Gotta love the happy ending!! Way to go Kathryn!!

Pat, I always do try to find out. If they respond to me, I can "maybe" get some info. I feel that responsible breeders WANT to get back any b before it goes into rescue. So, I do try. Will let you all know, if I can.

I feel like people need to be just as careful when choosing a rescue as they are when choosing a breeder. Rescues have been found to be hoarders, to be breeders labelling their dogs as rescues as a marketing ploy, or like PETA, to kill 97% of animals they "rescue". The impression I got of this rescue was that it was not one I wanted to work with because they seemed to hold some extreme views. I am delighted to hear that I was wrong and that this is a good rescue. The situation with the "breeder" is horrible, and I am glad this girl is finally being cared for. I agree that the breeder has earned herself a place in you know where. After Estelle passed away while my MIL was in the process of trying to adopt her she is a little gun shy. It is amazing how attached you can get to an animal you haven't even met. -Nicole

Taz has been in foster care through the Midwest Dog Resuce Network since he was turned over by the breeder (I believe around 8 months old). He had two sisters in foster care with him for a short time but they were adopted quickly. They were all shown on the BRAT website but were not evaluated by, or in the care of BRAT. He is such a handsome boy, I had given some serious thought to adopting him until they updated his profile to say that "he likes to be the boss". My female B absolutely has to be the boss of all other dogs (!) so I knew this combo wouldn't work out :( Here is the link to the organization caring for him: http://midwestdogrescuenetwork.com/default.aspx
