  • Welcome to our pack (gee didn't realize there were so many of the "royalists" here :)). You know what they say about a tri … they're tri-ing :D

  • Welcome to you and Patrick - he sounds very typical and I hope you enjoy him!
You'll enjoy the forum - everybody is very friendly and have so many interesting topics to talk about.

How did you decide on the name?

  • Yes he is very typical of the breed - his nickname is The Beast! His real name however comes from my son - I said he could name the Basenji when he arrived. After trying out several (Basil, Kofi amongst others) we kind of stuck with Patrick (Pat for short) - and my son liked the name after we flew to Prague and the pilot was apparently called Patrick (I don't take much notice of these things but I guess to an 11 year old pilots are exciting people!) I am enjoying this Forum and it is great to read about Basenjis and be amongst people with dogs who behave like mine does !

I agree, when things get really frustrating it is nice to know that at least X amount of people across the world have the same problems I do with my B, it brings me some kind of solace..LOL

  • Hello from a prespective owner!

Pat, you're absolutely right about Sally. As in the USA I think that most responsible breeders here have contracts which can include endorsements. When we talk about endorsements here we usually mean those placed on the puppies at initial Kennel club registration. These typically are 'Not to be bred From'. these endorsements can be removed at any time later in the dog's life. I don't know if you have that system there? Archaft, I can't see any reason to object to a puppy having it's papers endorsed. Its usually a sign of responsible breeders after all. Its no reflection on the prospective purchaser. I reiterate all that Kipawa has advised too. I would always advise prospective first time Basenji purchasers to visit Basenjis in their own homes where you can. Derbyshire is not all that far away from me and I welcome you to visit at any time to see Basenjis at home. I no longer breed so have no agenda only to ensure that people know what to expect from typical Basenjis.

Hi Kiro, Welcome our neck of the woods. I live just a bit past Emmittsburg in PA so I'm not too far. The Mid-Atlantic Basenji Club meets at the Carroll County Agricultural Center right there in Westminster. Our next meeting is 1 June and there will also be a spring fun match that same day. It starts at 0900. There is a Yahoo group for the club that has info about the event. It's fun and games. It's really neat to see so many basenjis in one place. Hope you can make it. It's a nice club to belong to. Karen
