• @etzbseder:

I think the only thing you'll have to do is decide if you want to use microsoft office or one of the other options out there. There's openoffice and iwork, as well as many others.

Yeah, good point about Microsoft Office. I've used Neooffice (it is free) for years and so far seems to be completely compatible with the Microsoft Office for Mac that I use at work.

  • I love my macbook pro. I've always been pro apple. This is my 3rd in the last 12 years, they are super reliable, my titanium laptop lasted me 7 years with multiple upgrades. I still use it as an extra.

The only thing I noticed with my best friends 2 yr old 13.3 white macbook is that the plastic around the keyboard towards the overall outer perimeter of the notebook has cracked and snapped off 80% of the way around. I don't think he abuses it, but he does take it everywhere. Maybe that's just the difference between the metal cases and the plastic.

As for ease of use and the OS, I love it, There isn't anything that my mac can't handle… though I do run parallels at least once a month for certain company webpages that can't be accessed with Safari or the last version of IE for mac. That's my only beef.

Welcome to the club, it gets addictive. As a kid we had an original macintosh. I also have an orginal shuffle, an 80 gig ipod, an ancient g4 and a mini on it's way download movies and watch them on the big screen! Enjoy!

  • I am a huge Apple fan. My first mac laptop was back in high school when they had those clamshell ones that came in all the colors. They actually gave me a new computer back in Sept because of a problem I had with the prior-to-magnetic power cord. They have since redesigned the power cord and I think people are having far fewer issues with it.
And I very successfully converted Liz to Apple computers also.
We had our IT guy in the office the other day and apparently Mac computers aren't as network friendly as far as business needs go. But for e-mail, browsing, media I find the organization of the computer far more intuitive. The shortcuts are so convenient. I like the Mail client alot. The widgets and the dock make it so easy to get around because you can make all the programs you use frequently (top 5-7) very accesible. I suggest dabbling around in System Preferences a lot once your computer arrives because there are so many options you can customize to you but you won't know about them unless you look for them.

  • Two 20 inch IMACs
    Macbook pro
7 ipods (sucker for the latest technology, huge music and photo collection)

Never owned a PC. Nothing personal. Use em at work.
They only regret is the amount of $$ I have spent compared
    to PCs.

  • Also, how convenient that it has been a waste of time for hackers and the like to write viruses that mess with Macs. I suppose that will be a thing of the past as more people use them.

  • I am really excited to get it, we have an Apple store at one of the malls today I got the e-mail to go sign up for a class there for free to learn how to use my Macbook. Very cool!

  • We have had i-macs since the very first one, with all the designers signatures on the inside of the case. Not much experience with a laptop, but the i-mac is wonderful (24 inch screen is great for photos) I use a PC at work and am very glad to have macs at home.

LOL I'm kinda like you; but don't have the iMacs yet, we have to Mac Books (white one and a black one) and a Mac Mini; then we each have almost every version of the iPod that's came out (LMAO), and iPhones (OG) and waiting for this summer to see if they release the new ones.

I do have a PC also but I only really use it for one single program

Once you go Mac you never go Back

  • They are releasing many new ipods and iphones at the end of the summer and into the fall. There is so many additions to the iphone as well.

have you seen the new shuffle (only one I haven't got) OMG it's so tiny - I'm afraid of losing the previous model I have now (heck I have misplaced it a few times LOL) that one the dog might accidental eat or something or evan me its so tiny

  • Stop it!!! I am going to need Mac rehab if you keep describing the new products. I purposely dont visit the web site and delete any updates cuz I have no control when it comes to the new Mac stuff. (But I am thinking about the mini cuz it would go so well with the new plasma entertainment system)
    OOOH! There I go again!

LOL and I'm so not good for you then cuz I had my Mini running off my bedroom tv a 46" LCD and I LOVED it. I say had though, now I just use it as my iTunes server LOL for my Apple TVs (yup that was plural, forgot to mention those earlier, one for the bedroom one for the living room); and since you can screen share everything with Macs I don't need a monitor with the Mini.

I also got a terabyte drive hooked up to it; and just bought a new one that I really didn't need but I really couldn't pass up the $120 sale on the MyBook terabyte drive. I mean really you don't come across tera drives that cheap that often, and I'm already running the MyBook drive and I really like
