Good thoughts for Vanyel (cat) please

Off Topic
  • It seems like everything happens at once. My sisters and mother have Four Kitties, Gaudiur a ten year old siamese mix, and Parnell, Vanyel, and Merill, 5 year old littermates, all boys. All the cats are indoors, but Vanyel a fervent adventurer is always attempting to escape and run around outside. 3 years ago he got out and was attacked by a dog resulting in a huge gash on his should which required several stiches and drains.

Last week he got out agian and was gone for several days when they finally caught him saturday evening they noticed he was was not using his back left leg. He was brought into the vet today and after an x-ray the conclusion is that he has a pelvic fracture. Unfortunatly the next vet who can do surgery for this kind of injury is in another city and not easily accesable to them. However since the break is clean the vet thinks if he is closely confined and kept from all strenuos activities that it will heal fine on it's own. So the poor cat is stuck in a large dog crate for the next month or so. For the next couple weeks he'll be on painkillers but after that I'm thinking he's gonna get frustrated and restless. So please good thoughts for him that his leg will heal nicely, and that he will be able to cope with his confinenment, and perhaps that he won't escape agian to go on adventures.

  • I'm sorry to hear about Vanyel's misfortune. My cat, Jewel Kitty, is also 5 years old (I adopted her from the Humane Society when she was 6 months). I know that if she ever got out and got hurt I would be completely beside myself. I'll be sending good thoughts your way for a speedy recovery. Good luck.

  • Good thoughts being sent you way for Vanyel's recovery.

  • Wendy, How do you keep your Basenji off of your cat?

  • I don't know about Wendy but my Kiora LOVE cats. She is aloof to dogs, and indifferent to people. But she gets so happy to see a kitty. She thinks she IS a kitty. Vanyel is doing great he seems to have made a full recovery. and is back to trying to do things he's not suppossed to.

  • I so hope he heals up soon.

  • I'm so glad to hear that he has healed! Wonderful news.

  • Glad to hear of a good recovery.:)

@eeeefarm: Until fairly recently, dogs managed just fine on table scraps. (still do in many places). Commercial dog food began as a way to salvage some use out of what humans don't consider fit for the table. Put a fancy label on it, and sell it to people who had essentially been feeding the dog the same thing for free. Now the pet food companies have convinced people that you have to balance everything "just so" or it is detrimental to your dog's health. Funny how they survived for so long without such assistance! And the claim that dogs now live longer just doesn't wash. More and more ailments are showing up that used to be unheard of, and I certainly knew dogs when I was growing up that lived well into their teens on table scraps. well said-processed foods do us all harm in time…..

LOVE the pictures. Yes, we are animal lovers. Our cats are treated royally here. Other than one cat, which I have trained to sit and shake a paw for a treat, they do exactly as they please. Nothing is sacred in our house. The back cushions of our couches have permanent sags in them from continuously being pushed down by a warm, living bundle of fur. It's deadly to wear black in our house. I still haven't figured out how to strap little vacuums onto their paws.

One of our most special cats (who is now over the Rainbow Bridge) was a black and white feral female we wound up having for 15 years. We had been feeding Miss Mew and her siblings for about a month. One day, we decided to catch all of them. Miss Mew was the first we caught. She had an eye infection (her eye was bulging) and I used the lack of her peripheral vision to grab her. The others were clever, but we eventually coaxed them into our condo with tuna. One of the four cats (the only male) was sickly. We took him to our vet, and after some testing, found out he had Feline Leukemia. Sadly, the best decision was to euthanize him. We were able to find homes for the other 2 girls, but we could just tell Miss Mew was special. About 4 years later, Miss Mew became a surrogate mom to my incredbly special cat Barney, who passed over the Rainbow Bridge last September 25, interestingly enough the same day as Kipawa was born! We now believe that Kipawa was heaven sent to us by Barney. The cosmos works in strange and wonderful ways. As the saying goes, "you get what you need". Any animal we have ever had has been what we have needed. And it all started with a feral cat named Miss Mew. Hugs to Miss Mew, who is now Barney's mom once again.
