Well, I tried….

  • So tonight dh was figuring out taxes, and pointed out the size of the refund we should be getting. I said, "oh! With that money we could get another Basenji!!!" :D

    Ya'll ever seen a lead balloon. :p

    I couldn't handle another one any way, but it was fun to try. ;)

    HAHAHAHA. I say work on DH & he'll come round ;) How can anyone resist those wrinkly faces?!?

  • I dream of being able to have a pack of basenjis :rolleyes:

    Well, me too. But, as Darren can just barely handle having two in the house {much as he loves them}, I think it'd be a "me or the dogs" situation, and as I am a stay-at-home mom….... well, yeah, I kind of need him to provide the home and the food, and actually, the dogs. LOL

    So, two works out just fine. :D

    {but I'd still really love to have a brindle; no -- two brindles. I'd like a beautiful dark brindle, but I also really like the light r/w ones. :) Ahhh, such is life; and dreams are fun to hold on to}

    You can find a lot of puppy collars at thrift shops for pretty cheap - would never pay full price for one. I'm getting mine at 14 weeks and was told that 8-12 inches was what was being used - then at 4- 6 months graduate to 10-14 inch collar.

    Shaye loves the sun - will lie out in the heat for as long as she can get it. Gemma, being a basenji/sheltie mix and furrier, lies on the cool tiles on the porch, and when the sun hits her, she heads for the A/C. At the beach, Shaye lies in the hot sand in the sun until I get her into the shade, and because she is also a heat seeking thing, wants to be totally under covers to sleep at night. Stands to reason the tris and b/w's would absorb more heat and not prefer it as much as the r/w's do.

    yes i'm glad I got chief! and I think he is starting to feel at home he is all over the place and his tail has more curl than when we first brought him home. He and zoe are wrestling on the couch over a chew they seem to be sharing . I just wish hubby wouldnt worry so much he thinks zoe will hurt him and is always breaking them up. He wont believe me when I say that things are going just as they should. Besides he weighed in at 12 1/2 lbs at the vet yesterday so she only has around 4 lbs on him if that.

    @Quercus: I am thinking the blue in the eyes is the reflection, not the color. Blue dobes have brown eyes, just like black ones. Idk if that only works in dogs. but rabbits if its a blue color they must have the blue eyes or its a DQ. Omgoodness that is a beautiful color! A little on the light side but it is just a puppy and gorgeous none the less. I wonder if you can get new colors passed in dogs like in rabbits. Trust me its a difficult process but its so rewarding to see all the beautiful colors. Chocolate has always been a favorite of mine :)

    I am so glad they both returned..scary. I was told a long time ago to make sure you walk you dog past your house in the front so they know/recognize where they live, if they only see a backyard, yet get out on the front, they don't know which house is theirs..makes sense.

    Funny funny story - after the fact of course. Although we do occasionally get woodchucks (same as groundhogs for those of you in the eastern states) and lots of other creatures, I haven't seen one in quite awhile here. However, my first basenji caught a young muskrat/marshrat who was stupidly trying to cut through our yard and treated him just like he did his toys - " few quick snaps and the stuffing started flying".
