  • It is horrible for me to even think about leaving an animal in a deserted area when you are just tired of them. I can't even watch Animal Planet when they do rescues, it breaks my heart to see animals mistreated. Why do people not think before getting a animal. Thanks God for Brat, and all the other rescue facilities!

Ever see "Dog Town"? Awesome place, but so sad how they acquire some of the dogs. They check the local dump and often find dogs there, trying to escape the sun by curling up in piles of tires, which of course suffocates them.
Sometimes they find dead dogs that have been shot by their owners, etc.

    It's just very sad.

BTW, I also use the shunning method with my basenji. He gets into everything and so I have to baby proof my house. Sometimes I leave a drink on the table and he tries to drink out of it and when I catch him with it, I let him know I am mad! I growl at him and then turn my back to him and he gets very upset. When he does anything I do want him to do, all I have to do is growl at him and he comes over to me bows his head and curls up in my lap. I guess it is an instinctual reaction to submit to his pack leader. He hates it when I ignore him in any way. He is funny, because he will sit down and look at me and whine or try to jump up on the chair with me if he thinks I am mad at him. Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk

Here's what I know: 2 bites to one foster mom. The first was over chicken, trying to take it away from him. The second was over going into the crate. I have not seen any aggression over the crate unless you're forcing him in, he goes in great with a little treat, and now we don't even have to do that. He sleeps in the crate and goes in there when he's not supervised or we're not home. I think she needed stitches for both, but she's older and disabled.

Macpack, Thanks for the update. It is nice to know that Kona and Keoki are so happy together and that Lisa and her husband must feel so good knowing they did a great thing..

@BasenjiByTheBay: That's just wonderful, Vicki. Lucky Bailey and lucky you! Thank you for being devoted to rescue. Can't help you with the addiction - I surf for basenjis every few days even though there's no way we have room for more than our two. I was surfing petfinder.com today! Bad. Bad. Bad. I promised I would stop.

I posted a new thread re 2 of these b's who are having issues in their foster home and need help. I will share it with you all. 2- 3 yr old b's need fosters/homes, from pm bust –------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This is a pair of the b's who were taken from the puppymill that closed. We really need a smart basenji home to foster and or adopt. Sharron I imagine they will be open to be moved to any near by states. Wilma (brindle) and Wanda (red and white), both three years old and from the SD group, are currently being fostered in central LA. They are very afraid of men and not doing well in their current foster home. If anyone in the southern states, TN or AR would be willing and able to foster them both together, please notify me. I would like to place them in a foster-to-adopt home if available. If you do not live in the area listed but can help with transportation to your location I will consider moving them out of the area. If you are traveling through LA and would not mind a couple furry passengers, let me know. They ride well in crates. This type of venue will help new folks see that all dogs aren't "perfect" but we love them anyway. I so hope she is rehomed soon.
