• ditto. Darn cute too.

  • She very well could be…it will be interesting to see her when she gets her full size.
    How old is she now?

  • She is 9 months I have been trying to figure out what she is. With such a rare breed I wouldn't think I would come across one ,even a mix. And that crazy howling, I thought she was just nuts!! The only characteristic that does not match exactly, is that she seems to have more of a bark than I have read about. But all the yoodling and howling, sounds just like her.

  • She looks like a basenji in the picture, is that a recent one? I only ask because she looks younger in the pic

  • In that picture she was about 3-4 months. It was the best one that showed her tail and stance.

  • I would definitely say she has a LOT of basenji in her then by that pics, she does look a little small for a 3-4 month old pup, but then it is taken from above

  • However she does have a protective bark. But that is the only behavior difference from everything I have read.

  • Do you have any recent pictures of her?

Mix or full blooded she is absolutely adorable

  • Well these are both about 2 months ago, I will work on a new picture today.

  • Look's like a lot of Basenji to me, maybe a little on the small side but very adorable. Maybe you could post some more pic.

  • I was reading that they are about 20 lbs full grown. I don't think she will get that big. Maybe 15 at the most.

  • She looks like a Basenji, Chi cross to me. I dunno, though…the body look totally Basenjis, except for maybe a little stubby...but something about the ears, and the eyes looks more Chihuahua, or terrier to me.

Whatever she is, she is awfully cute!

Thats what I was thinking after lookin at the other pics also

  • Looks like some corgi in her to me… Seems like she may have a slightly elongated body in porportion to her height. But it's hard to tell from the pic.

  • So cute! Looking forward to more pictures!

  • Whatever she is, she's sure cute!!! Definately part Basenji… and maybe the Chi.

  • I have been thinking that she is Chihuahua and jack russell, but the tail is what does not match up.

  • Well, she could be Rat terrier, and chihuaha…or basenji and chi. Decker Rat terriers have Basenji in the mix, so there definite looks like there is Basenji in there by virtue of the tail.

    I would say a Rat Terrier also…

Keoki is a 9 mos old, purebred Basenji and he has started barking. We are currently visiting at my mother's house, and the dogs are spending most of their time in the garage {w/a nice woodstove!}. Keoki has begun barking – several short repeated barks in rapid successsion; does not resemble any sound other than a bark -- at anyone who approaches the garage door, AND at the cows that he can see on the hillside outside the garage. This is a new thing for him, and I can only attribute it to the new environment and his uncertainty about it.

    {He's been barking tonight at the window and garage door, which is unnerving because it is pitch black outside, and we know that bears and cougars frequent Mom's yard at night [poop is everywhere out there] and I have to take the dogs out in that darkness to potty a few times every night. :eek: Scares the heeby-geebies out of me!!}

Although Basenjis do not typically bark, they are certainly capable.
