Thank you for the input eeeefarm, that is exactly what I'm planning to do once ive done some more research.i have been around many different breeds of dogs over the years but never owned one myself so I have a fair bit of knowledge about most breeds and I would never put my children in harm's way or any dog for that matter. If I'm not as sure as I can be about my family's ability to love,look after and train a dog we won't be having one. This is why I got onto this forum to gather as much information from owners (like your good self) and others who have bothered to read my message properly,as I can before we go ahead and take on a very large commitment.
Great basenji mix on petfinder May be purbred

Great looking basenji mix just came out on petfinder . Some one looking for a mix should check him out. When they look that good they seem to go fast.
-
@isabob I think I found him...

He's cool looking.

Something about his chest that looks "wishbone"... not a purebred trait. However, that might be an illusion from the angle he is posing in. He's kind of a goofball. But a loveable goofball.

You have to be joking ! I have seen innumerable wishbone fronts on purebreds in the show-ring when I have been judging ! Not good, a definite fault, but all too frequent in occurrence !

Really? I thought a (wider) chest that came out in front of the shoulders was part of the standard. (This is why I don't breed, I realize there is much about breeding that I do not yet know.)

You use the word yet - interesting ! I assume you are going to embark on a breeding spree very soon ? Good for Doodle !
There is nothing in the Standard about the chest coming out in front of the shoulders. . . I guess you mean, in the US standard "Slight forechest in front of point of shoulder. We don't have it in the UK standard. In fact it is interesting to compare the two Standards and then wonder if it is the same dog they are describing !
And sadly, @elbrant, NOT all Basenjis are bred to the Standard exactly - therein lies the fun in judging !

@elbrant - Here is a great resource for the Basenji standard http://www.tanzabasenjis.net/Illustrated_Standard.pdf

I really didn't mean to start a debate, I just saw the dog on pet finder and so many people are looking for basenjis , I thought someone would want to do there home work on it and give the homeless dog a loving home. I didn't say it was purbred. I just said it may be I figured the rest was up to the interested. This is not against the rules is it. If it was I am sorry if I overstepped.

No worries, you didn't do anything wrong. This is just "us". We all have thoughts that we share, oftentimes in opposition of one another, which means that any given thread could go many different ways.
