Red Splotches on Tummy

Basenji Health Issues & Questions
  • Jasper has irregular red splotches on his tummy where his hair is the thinnest. They don't seem crusty or infected. He's not licking or paying any attention to them. Advice?

  • does he lay in the grass? ant bites or sensitivity to the grass on the skin, ever sit on the grass yourself and get those funny red spots and or indentions? maybe the same thing or him laying on a rug that has been cleaned with something he may be allergic to? If they do not clear up in a day or two or get worse; definitely see a Vet!

I would take him to an opthalmologist for an exam though because there are lots of thing that it could be besides this. He could also be having really bad allergies that is causing inflamation of his eyes. Jennifer

Vet said that he might experience fainting spells. I'm assuming that if blood is unhealthy, it can't do its job properly. Things like carry oxygen, nutrients and toxins to the appropriate organs. I'm hoping the best case is he will go from unconsciouness to death. He got hit by a car about 10 years ago and got his pelvis screwed back together. Other than that he gets around fine. thanx

I've never heard of using tea tree oil before. I'll have to give that a try too. With Max, I had to put him in his e collar when I used sprays or creams. With Zoey and Tyler–they don't seem to lick at creams (or sprays once they've dried). An old vet of mine used to put something bitter in sprays to keep dogs from licking after you sprayed--it seemed to work pretty well with Max. He'd take one sniff and wrinkle up his nose.
