    HI! I am new to this forum and stumbled upon it by accident looking for help with my 8 month old Basenji named Rosco. We adopted him from the local rescue league when he was 6 months old. We had no idea what we were getting into haha! The problem that i am having is one the boundless energy woohoo he can just go and go!! The biggest problem is at first we thought he might be house broken with just a few accidents but the first snow came and he was not happy about it and since then (about a month ago) he has started to pee and poo in the house. Not all the time and never in his crate. How do we teach him not to go in the house and go outside only? We are new to this our last rescue was already house trained. We do also have the problem he likes to chew and take things and run around the house. We realize this is puppy behavior, he sure does keep us busy. We always say how can something so cute be so bad!

    Arlo does "downs" like Zoni (Aries' niece :)) doesā€¦.with extreme enthusiasm by slamming her paws to the ground. Love it.

    Have you tried to contact anyone in the Tucson Kennel Club? http://www.azdogs.com/tkc/ They don't have much of a website, but do have email addys for the President and Secretary. There are likely other kennel clubs in the area also

    @tanza: I think you are waiting too long. You should have two complete sets of shots before class. Waiting till they are 15/16wks you are missing critical socialization skills. Waiting for "all the shots" is pretty much old school these days. My pups go out even before that to things like lure trialsā€¦ you just need to be careful and not let them "get" into anything like "old poop" laying around. I'm planning on taking her around the time of the 2nd shots if I can. But the problem is that the next round of puppy classes doesn't start till the last week of March, which would be around 14 weeks anyway. Maybe they will let me join the last half of the previous class but I'd have to check into that.

    We put the dogs on our schedual instead of waiting till they have to go- We take them out first thing in the morning after they eat & before they go to bed also anytime we come home after being gone or after heavy play/training. We also walked then to get it in their heads of marking outside. They now will hold it till their walks so they can mark as much as they can.
