    This morning I was checking out the Modern Dog website and came across a local ad on my screen for canine first aid.

    Has anyone else taken a canine first aid course?

    This one sounds quite good - they even have 'dummy dogs' with working lungs and pulses.

    I think the Red Cross also offers a first aid class for pets. I have seen it in my area-Ohio.

    Yes, I have taken a pet first aid course, definitely worth it. I looked at the link from the place that you intend to participate with and it is very similar to what I did. The 8hour course is intense and very informative. Practicing on a 'dog dummy' was very helpful. Highly recommend to any professional and/or dog owner. The first aid you give before the trip to the Vet's office could be life saving! and knowing what to do in an emergency takes away the 'fear' and you can be more calm for the dog in need. I am due for renewal as a matter of fact!!!

    I also have a Verizon air card USB - the video may use it all up. Also, instead of using the laptop with the air card, I used my home computer to call it up and found you have to subscribe to something in order to watch - it's my policy not to do that. So, even though the video may be great, you do have to sign up with something to do so.

    @Forever: Zoe on the other hand has turned into a little witch. As was suggested I think she is protective of chief. She even turned on Lizzy when she came over the first few minutes than they were fine. But all her previous doggy friends get snarled at when chief gets near them. I hope she settles soon. She has one old dog who looks forward to seeing her on his walks flinching around her now. When Liyah was a baby - if Brando started to go off on her, Ruby would put herself in between Liyah & Brando. Ruby was very protective of Liyah when Liyah was a pup. Ruby doesn't interfere as much anymore - once in a while she gets involved - she pretty much just lets Brando handle it now.

    I saw a thread in Books (I think) called Basenji Owner's Manual that some of the members are saying is pretty good. Keep in mind that Lilu is part Shepherd too. She may end up with some behavioral traits of that breed as well. Surf the puppy sections too…lots of great information there.:)

    Shelley, You are right, the motivation "has" to be there, or it probably won't work. This is the first time I have taken OC with any of my dogs so I am sceptical, but highly motivated…my B will get this done.. My westie, Bogus never even learned how to crate properly...he kept on pooping in the crate and then sleep in it...nothing bothered him, noot even stinking like a dog pile. The crate I used for him was actually so small, after a lot of trials and errors and he still pooped..that is when we gave up. He did great with puppy pads..for peeing, not for pooping, that he did right next to the pad, like it wasn't supposed to get dirty or something..silly dog. He is not with us anymore, he just passed in late march.
