    @alibobo Echoing what Sally (and Liz McCargo) has suggested re: not spaying/neutering, at least at this young age. There's a very insightful and thoroughly informative booklet by the "Puppy Culture" founder on the subject. It is chockful of the latest scientific/medical/genetic research and also takes into consideration the social "pressure" of neutering/spaying one's pet.     You know, he's always seemed kinda 'laid-back' compared to my previous B-boy, but he was 5 when I got him. I just thought, knowing a bit of his background (he was previously in a home with a special needs child), that he was just that way. Maybe he has had this thyroid issue for a longer time than it took to manifest itself, physically. BTW, the backstory I heard for him involved a neighbor teen that was, supposedly, tortuous to the dog, ultimately leading to a bite. The dog and special needs child were best of friends. all of this could be 'horse hockey'….but even the vet has said he has a great personality.

    His vet appointment is in three weeks and I'm taking the AVA information on Fanconi syndrome with me. We've been very lucky with Rocky. He was a rescue and has become the best family dog. I know the breed is not known for being good with kids but he is so incredibly patient with my two children (3 and 6 months). He even helped teach my eldest to walk by leting her hold onto his shoulders while she toddled along. I'll keep you guys posted and let you know what's up. We've had him tested for kidney, liver, and renal failure in the past as well as chronic UTI and blood-bourne illness. Nothing… "perfectly healthy dog". We'll keep looking until we figure out what's wrong. Thanks for all the info!
