    Not much luck this past year with the black/whites in the Midwest…but not for the lack of trying, lol. They all pretty much turned out red and tri. Well except for Brad, I think the basenji fairy gave them all to him. :p

    And if you came to my mom's house you would swear black was the popular color and red the rare one, 5 blacks and 1 red. My household is a bit more balanced at about half and half. Most of my family didn't realize black and whites were a "less popular" color.

    after losing kenta back in feb. i've been looking for a brindle also he died from blastomcosis )
    the lady i got him from says he was a rare one but i grew up with
    a black and white and got another he has such a attitude and i love
    him the rodent if you happen to find more than one let me know PLEASE

    I'll be breeding my beautiful brindle girl,Diva to my red boy,Rocky this fall.
    Ofcourse,I want my kids in racing homes if possible.
    Rocky has been and is a top racing basenji,and Diva is following in his pawprint.
    Little rockets are expected out of this litter.

    He is also ASFA pted,(44)
    and has won the LGRA/NOTRA Nationals in 2009,2010
    What else can I say.
    Diva, Jaroufa's The Glamazon at Etowah,RATI is pt'ed in LGRA,NOTRA,ASFA AND AKC LURE COURSING
    as well as having her RATI (Rat Instinct Test Title)
    She is very driven.
    The two of them will have pups that will EXCELL on the race track as well as the coursing field.

    Can't wait for this breeding to take place sometime this fall.

    This is not the time of year to look for a Basenji in the Northern Hemisphere, let alone in Kent ! One breeder from there is reputed to have said he had enough advance orders for 4 years after the last year's rush to buy a Basenji ! But you could (maybe) get on a waiting list for next March delivery. Email me privately (address in websites on signature block) for a list of breed club secretaries.

    If you belong to Facebook please join the group "Basenji Puppies/Puppys/Puppy’s: Get Educated BEFORE you BUY". You will learn from the group posts and information why the two breeders mentioned above are not considered "reputable" as well as a whole raft of other breeders considered "disreputable". You will also learn what constitutes a reputable breeder. A non-refundable deposit is a red flag, not being able to locate sire and dame test results on OFA is another, contracts where the breeder does not accept full responsibility of their pups or dogs if something goes wrong or you can no longer take care of him/her. Reputable does not mean they have to be a show breeder but usually they are. Not all puppies are meant for the show ring but their breeder should be breeding to the standard as if they were.     I think that a basenji puppy and a two-year-old is a recipe for disaster for many reasons. Both require and crave lots of attention, neither one can be reasoned with, both will want to play with the same toy, both can be stubborn, and the list goes. It is far too much to expect a two-year-old to understand how to get along with any puppy, especially a basenji puppy. If your heart is set on a basenji puppy, then I think you should wait until your child is at least five or six years old.Children that age understand what you are saying about the puppy and you can explain to them why you are saying it. I agree with the person who suggested getting an older basenji or how about a puppy of another breed? t one time in my life I had a basenji and a mixed breed, and they got along beautifully. You may love all the traits of this breed but I was suggest that you talk to owners and their experiences with the basenjis and young children. One cannot count on even the best breeders to give you the full story. Please don't get me wrong. I've had three basenjis and adored them all. I got the first one when my youngest daughter was seven. You don't have to wait that long but two years old is too young, imho. Good luck.

    Are you saying he's breeding brother to sister, or just remarking he has them? Don't put all your eggs in one basket... bitches miscarry, have one pup, lots of things. As for whelping, I thought you said breeding and had to reread. The southern hemisphere is about 6 mos later for estrus. The below paper, I wonder if they followed up to see if basenjis are losing seasonal cycles. For the most part, estrus occurs within the months of September and October for Basenjis living in the Northern Hemisphere. Breeders have also noticed a second estrus sometimes occurs around March or April. In England many Basenjis have a second estrus (Burns, 1952). This has created some concern that the Basenji is losing its annual cycle since leaving Africa.     Thanks everyone for all this information! He is a gorgeous pup (face marked like my Topper) but he is very far away. Interestingly, I have a friend who lived in Russia many years ago and had a basenji, it would be funny if I wound up with a Russian Basenji. There are so many here that need homes, though….....
