@hizbaby said in Searching for a LONG time!: I am apparently only allotted a certain number of replies / comments / lkes, and some subjects tell me I am not authorized to view, hmmm... there are occasions when posts (and entire topics) are removed from the Forum. I monitor the posts for spam so that members (like yourself) do not have to wade through advertising for things like "printer support". And there are subjects that you wouldn't have access to, like things in the "Moderator's Lounge" where I can contact the site owners with questions. Every once in a while, I will see a notice that I, myself, have made too many comments. It's not a restriction on you or anyone else... it's just an alert that the server is busy... give it a count of 10 and resubmit your comment. The server just needs a minute to process whatever it was doing. your email was removed from the post before I could reply to you personally. I do remove personal contact information in posts, but you can usually find someone's email address on their profile page. Just click on their screen name, like this: @hizbaby. I think @Daureen was the one that sent her email. I did send you some information about a breeder in the chatroom (also on your profile page), but I wasn't sure if you were able to reach them.

I just wanted to respond to this thread. I hope everything is going good with you and things are working out. The thing I wanted to respond to was the thought that a man may have abused him since he does not do well with men. A basenji can make their mind up about disliking something for no reason at all. My first Basenji was with me from 6 weeks of age and never had a man abuse him and at two years old decided he hated men for the next two years. I kept him socialized and kept getting men to feed him pet him while I had him stacked and holding his head, had them talk to him, go over hime etc. after a while his dislike left as quickily as it came. I have had a few dogs do this sort of stuff between 12 and 18 months I call it the stupid stage, they all the sudden don't like men, women, the grooming table, the trash can outside etc. It is important to work them through their fear so they can be a complete dog. Just think how it would be for you if say you were scared of men but had to see them daily just think how stressful your life would be. I hope if you keep him you help him get through this or if you place him please be honest with the new owners and recommend that they get him out and work him through this.

None now until next winter. Basenjis are once a year girls. Your research should tell you that😀

Our B went to a family in another state. They have had Bs in the past and really wanted another one. The only home that may not have understood B behavior was the first one with the elderly couple. The family we got him from wanted to keep him but had a child who was allergic. Our daughter wanted to keep him also but could not have a dog where she is living. We have 6 other dogs, and felt we could not give him the attention he deserves. We would have liked to keep him, but believe he will have a better home where he now is. Thank you for your concern. Marilyn

A lot of times dogs also mount as a way to initiate play. Most B's hate water and you can use a squirt bottle to get their attention, and possibly stop their mounting. One of my alpha females (until she was recently spayed) used to run around and mount all of my male dogs, she would even follow my service dog around and attempt to mount him when she was in season. Now that was a site! A Basenji trying to mount the head of a Thai Ridgeback. Bruiser would just look at me w/his pleading eyes saying "please help me MOM!" as soon as she was spayed (or came out of season) she would quit. I think she just wanted them to know she was (and still is) boss.
