  • The artists full name is John Fulton Short (Congomama - note the correct spelling of Fulton), Short being the third name you can not make out Holly.

You can read about him here:

    Pretty interesting life, IMO.

I will scour my old Bulletin and/or BASENJI issues to see if I can learn more.

  • Thanks for sharing, will post on the basenji group Mexico, of FB, hope you dont mine :-)
    Very lovely pictures!

  • hi, how fasinating…..........you certainly did stike gold.THEY ARE WONDERFUL and very interesting, we too are fairly new to basenjis we have a lovely boy wing co short for wing commander. he is a joy..
    thanks for sharing theas picyures..

  • I am sure you can sell them for a nice bit of $$ if you decide not to keep them..but why wouldn't you want them for your family?
Good care of these artworks will keep their value for many years to come.

  • I have a full set of four prints. They are numbered 36/100. They have never been framed nor have they been subject to sunlight. The colors are still splendid.
I started out with Basenji in the late 50's and 60's. My parents bought our first puppy from the Belmont-Ward kennels. Our first little girl was Tina; bought as pet quality but getting her CH within 6 months. I, at a young age and my parents as well were friends with Damera Bolte, breading with one of her Sires.
I live in Denver, Colorado and would be interested in letting the prints go to a good home who would appreciates the quality and who would know that they are making an offer for rare, fine quality prints.

  • Can you send us a photo of each of the prints please?

  • This is a pic of all four together. I will also get the camera ready and take each individually.

  • I would be interested in those.

  • Information in next post.

You're a very new member to this forum, just this month. Yes, I am interested in the pictures, but at this time of year there are a lot of scams going around. I hope you understand that. There would have to be some way for you to verify you have these prints. So, despite being interested in these, I am a little hesitant.

  • I think ebay might be the best option. I think they'd be great to have, but have no idea what sort of price 50's is thinking about. (Also, I'd be happy to drive up to Denver to pick them up if they were to live at my house. :) )

  • they are great. I can think many of us would like to own them, but I agree with Fran. We need something to assure we are getting what we see.

Hmmmm… no response from 50's Basenji?

  • Fran, not everyone hangs onto the boards– I'd give them a day or 2.

Yes Debra, you're right. Some folks are not addicted to the forum! :)

  • Well, there are also those who try to take advantage. Not that this is the case, just saying…

  • Been sick as a puppy. it is taking a lot just to get this out.
    Not trying to take advantage.
As I said in my first post, I have been long in the basenji community getting my first in the late 50's. My parents were very strong in the BCOA. I even work with someone involved with rescue. Not sure she wants her name out there though.
    I will be back.

  • Well, take care and get better.

When you are up to it, the conversation can continue. For now, chicken soup, tea, lots of rest and follow doctor's orders.

@weedtrek Possibly Basenji mix, nose looks a bit wider and the eyes are less oval. Could well be a Basenji mix though.

@fjd89 Always good to do health testing.... Don't know about how hip testing is done overseas. You would need to check with your local Vets.

Filas are classified as Dangerous Dogs in the UK. Obviously a case of nurture not nature.

My Rue is pretty perfect. She is mixed with something (I don't know what) so she doesn't look like a real B… and she isn't interested in anything in our house (chewing wise), doesn't bolt out the door, and licks like CRAZY! She also doesn't really like to play with other dogs at the dog park, she just smells them, occasionally chases them, then comes back and lays down by me (EXERCISE DANG IT!). The only normal B behaviors that I see in her are the little noises that she makes (she makes a lot of them for different reasons) and her BAROOOOOOO (which is fitting because we named her Rue before we even knew she was a Basenji) and it seems like she is stubborn about sitting. It's like she is saying, "yeah I know you want me to sit, but first I'm gonna spin around in a circle. Then maybe I'll sit if I feel like it." Haha! She is a character!

OMG, TRUST me…its not only ur baby, Jack has some seporation anxiety, i mean, we rescued him so that may be why, but i Always feel so sad when we leave him, he runs to the window and crys when we leave, but i KNOW it wonly lasts until he cant see us anymore (driving away) my neighbor watched for me. but SOMETIMES he does get into things when we leave for too long. like the other day, when he ate my betta fish food...grr...
