Kipawa at the U.S. beach

  • He's growing up fast! I just love that 2nd photo, the wrinkles and that smirk of his… adorable. :D

  • Hello Fran and Kipawa!

He is looking marvelous…so big and happy. I love the pic with three legs off the ground and all the ones with the waves (looks like curiosity turned into "heck no, I don't want any of that!").

I'm glad to see he is doing so well. Scarlett started her basic obedience class last Saturday and I think she will be in the bottom of her class:) B's just have a way about them..." Heel!, What's in it for me!".

Therese's B's are the greatest! IMO;)

  • Beautiful Pictures. He sure has grown!!!

Hi Walter and Scarlett! Don't fret about the classes, just do the best you can. Kipawa was somewhere in the middle of the class. Basenjis go at their own pace, I believe. I also found that by the last 10 - 15 minutes of the class he had decided he had enough. Just work at home with Scarlett - 10 mins. max per session. I found that really helped us. And, lots of praise and some treats always help. :) Hope to see you both at the Evergreen Basenji Club specialty in August! We will be there as admirers of all the dogs that will be shown.

  • Wonderful pictures Fran..he is looking smashing..a lot like one of my favorite boys..and yours too I believe…Tillo..I see a resemblance for sure.

Lucky boy to have you as his momma.

  • I am planning on going with my girlfriend and our precious Scarlett. We wish you, your husband and Mr. K all the best! :D

Are you familiar with Tsawwassen? Take the main drag (56th) and drive straight until you hit the border. Carry your dog's vaccination papers with you in case they ask to see them (they rarely, if ever, do). Of course, you will need your passport. Go through the border and travel straight down the road. Eventually you will see a marina on your left. Continue on the road, which veers to the right. Continue until you see Marine Park. Park your car and head out for a great walk!

I only ever see BC licence plates there! Oh, and don't forget to get cheap gas! We use the station called Can-Am. Their prices are always the lowest. You will be blown away by what you save. Filling up my coupe here with premium gas costs me about $110 and I can fill up there for $75.

  • What a handsome boy! And he's getting so big!!

@Shaye's: I love the poem on the rock as well. Lucky little Kipawa - lucky mom too. At this particular beach, there are quite a few rocks inscribed with various partial poems or eloquent thoughts. People can also pay for a bench as a tribute to a loved one. The beach has a wonderful feeling to it, a truly welcoming area for dogs and humans alike.

I give all the credit regarding Kipawa's mellowness to our breeders Therese and Kevin (FoPaw's Basenjis). They obviously did so much work in exposing Kipawa to a number of sounds and experiences. The carwash experience was really interesting. I thought he would be scared of it, but instead he seemed really curious. He especially loved the pink, green and yellow foam bubbles against the windows. Maybe he could pick up that I like them too? :)

Wow, that first picture is great! If I hadn't of known otherwise, I would of guessed that that was a stuffed doll of a Basenji! His eyes are almost like sew-on button eyes!

@Basenjimamma: funny.. Webcams are a blessing but I also think that before the cams we ventured more on a limb as supposed to take the comfort road and stay in if the weather looks iffy. The dogs probably don't care one way or another, pending rain of course.. I do go up there when it's foggy only I know how to dress or at least take a jacket. In the summer it's usually about 58-61 degrees with the fog.

Now we do have the time to spent time with the dogs on the beach. The main tourist season is over and the beaches, at least if you know where to go, are empty as far as your eyes can see. This is Basenji-Fun-Season ;-) They have so much fun charging the doves and running just for joy. Regards, Esther
