…basenjis are hard to train....has not met Otis yet..

We trained him to go to the bathroom when he is getting sick..so easy, makes for very little to no clean up and the flushing, well I don't mind helping him with that...

..all jokes aside..I can not get him to not drink out of the toilet..gross I think…lovely bouquet he thinks..
I know, I know, put the lid down..try telling the 4-yr old boy that...good luck..

  • I just keep the bathroom shut. I've been in habit of doing that whenever I got my brindle beast. They can't be trusted in rooms where no one is watching them. 🙂

Hi Lucas, I'm Nobarkus and a friend of your Mothers. Your Mother and Otis really need your help. Do you want to help them? OK great, can you please put the toilet lid down after you are done. Thank you Lucas, you're a good boy to help your Mom. 😉

The door being kept shut would be optimal, no drinking in the toilet, no paper for snack, no trash to get sick on…yet, the kids always forget to close it..
The trashcans are now in the cabinets, the tp is on the counter...but the lids are still up..
Maybe I should take Lukas and Sofia to dog training...

Our old dog Lou always drank out of the toilet, if I left the lids closed, he would get dehydrated..that is the only water source he saw fit, refused to drink out of a bowl..sometimes he would steal a drink out of your glas, if you left it on the coffee table, but the favorite was the toilet...yuck.

  • Is it possible to put spring hinges on the door so when anybody leaves the door closes?

  • Zest goes to the bathroom to throw up. If I know she needs to do that, I'll help her throw up in the toilet, otherwise she just does it in a corner, but always in the bathroom. Easier to clean up than on the carpet!

  • Blaze stopped drinking out of the toilet when he caught my mom using it. She said he nosed open the door, saw her, stepped back in shock, then gave her the most disgusting look ever. He hasn't done it since.

Yep, Nicky tries to throw up in the bathroom or outside. Rio also usually tries to throw up outside. Much easier to clean up than Sophie's preferred barfing spot, the landing of our carpeted stairs.

  • AJ's been really good about letting me know he needs to be sick. Usually, I have plenty of time to get him outside. If there's no time, I keep newspaper around to shove under his nose.

It's one of my favorite things about Basenji…they are so tidy.

As far as drinking from the toilet, there are few dogs who won't get a sip of fresh water when they can...especially if it smells like hiney. I didn't put Ti-D-Bowl hangers in 'cause I didn't want a REALLY sick dog.

  • I would never dare leave the bathroom doors open - toilet paper, the rugs, the toilet itself - the hamper with dirty clothes - Shaye would have a picnic with all of it!

    Tooooo funny 😃 😃
Once again basenji potty talk - I love it!

  • I agree, my three don't go into one side of the house, its gated, if they do follow me, I keep an eye on them, The bathroom and closet and like toy stores, many rolls of T -paper and a few chewed shoes were destroyed when I wasn't on top of my full time job, which is, being the human in Belle's , Shango, & Ra's world.

Me daring to leave the door open is something my 4 yr old laughs at..after all mom, it is just toilet paper…..he doesn't see the mess in it, he thinks it is funny. Now the trash digging he understands the danger of, since he has been with me to the vet when Otis was so sick last, come to find out, it more then likely wasn't the trash that got Otis sick in the first place, but I would like for him (4 yr old) to think it was…that way he gets the point...

We will, do what I have done on the front and back door, put a a sign up that says beware of the basenji thief.., on the front and back doors it says…beware of the basenji runners, keep door closed at all times..,
oh and then we also have The chickens are out, no dogs allowed.., for obvious reasons..not so much basenji related as Dachshund and belated Westie related.

I mainly posted the picture of Otis in the toilet because it cracked me up seeing it..but thanks for your ideas, guys..
