    Alright, so my friend is moving to Chicago and can't keep her pet Penelope anymore as her swanky apt wont allow pets. I volunteered to watch Penelope the Chihuahua until we can find her a good loving home. I was super worried that Roxy would eat her…Turns out, Roxy LOVES her and wants to share EVERYTHING with her...Penelope, not so much. Bit her 3 times and won't stop growling at her...I dont know what to do. Roxy is now TERRIFIED to go near her and keeps looking at me like "Mom...I want it out!"...I feel bad but on the other hand this poor dog is homeless! ANY IDEAS?!:confused:

    If you pay attention, there may be some subtleties that might give you a clue. Dogs pay close attention to body language. He may see the Collies as a threat because of something not easily noticeable, and perhaps he is generalizing if one of them has given him bad vibes and the others look similar enough for him to consider them a threat. My boy really didn't like small white fluffy dogs, I have no idea why....but perhaps because many were noisy and wanted to get in his face.

    Looks can be so deceiving- here is an article of a woman who adopted a rescue dog in N.J. Dog looks like a basenji - even her vet thought it might be basenji. She did an Embark DNA test - no basenji. Turned out the dog was a mixture of Mountain Cur, Rat Terrier, Beagle, and Boston Terrier. link text

    Where I am it costs about $2K+ for a dog from a breeder for just about any breed. Goldens may be less because the litters are so large. That may seem like a lot, but, as Debra mentions, dogs cost money to care for. After vet bills and boarding fees and food, it matters little what the dog cost to acquire. Leaving true puppy mills out of the discussion, given the costs of being a responsible breeder -- testing, vet bills, feeding -- and how much work breeding is, I can't imagine anyone doing it for the money. That leads to two problems for people looking for dogs. One is that since breeding isn't really lucrative, there aren't a ton of breeders, which means the supply of pups is low. Second is that most Basenji breeders want to place their pups in the best possible homes -- remember they aren't doing it for the money -- which means they're looking for people who have had Basenjis before. Something of a Catch-22.

    My Basenji Billy is quite undershot; he's a purebred, his bottom jaw just didn't stop growing when it was supposed to. That's okay, I'm a bit of a sucker for a dog with an underbite anyway.:) He was my first rescue Basenji.

    hi, try some neolsporin for his scraches you can use it on cats, dogs. and people can use it too. my vet told me about it and he deals with basenji's allthe time .!. it's like 5.00bucks and the 200.!!
