Phoenix tail bald spot

I would use either salmon oil or some other fishbased oil. They are very good and my dogs love the taste.

    I second that suggestion.

  • Chance got a bald tail last year. I had no idea what it was. He didn't seemed bothered by it at all. The hair has grown back but now that he is shedding, I can see it appearing again a little. I give him salmon oil every day. I think it may be just something to do with his shedding. He has an extra short, extra fine coat.

  • Where do i get this Fish Oil ? And is it ok to give to all 3 of my babies ?

  • I get mine from a small UK company called Fish4Dogs. Probably no use at all to you over the pond. :)

  • I was buying the expensive doggie fish oils and my vet says that it's a silly waste of money. She said she just gets the omega-3 oils for humans, that they're the same thing and guaranteed FDA approved. She cautioned about some "pet suppliers" on the internet that import such things from countries that don't regulate.

..and yes all dogs would benefit from fish oils..fatty acids are good for all of us, two or four legged..(maybe not cats, but then again they eat the fish so probably so)

  • so maybe walmart ?? I think i remember then having fish oil caplets in the vitamin section I'll run over there later and check it out I know this might be a stupid question but it has to be the oil right ? Not like a pill ? I have been racking my brain trying to think what it might have been from the only thing i can think of is it's either dry and ichy or he got like a mosquito bite and iched it Cuz like i said there no redness and i didn't even see a bump or anything just the bald spot

Look on the label to see if it's tested for heavy metals like mercury and PCB. Most do.

  • ok this is the stuff i found it's a pill shape but liquid inside so i figured i would just cut the top off and out it in there food . the ingredients on the back say … fish oil concentrate ,gelatin, glycerin. methacrylic acid copolymer, d-sorbitol, propylene glycol . Heres a pic of the front of the bottle .

  • I order from here. When you figure in the cap. count and the buy 1 get 2 free, the price is really very good.

  • How do you give the fish oil to your dog? Break open a gel tab and squeeze it on their food? Any particular brand of fish oil? My husband takes Members Mark. Would that work?

  • ya i just got the pills and just pop a hole in it and put it over there food they all seem to like it so hopefulyl it works :)

Well, his tail returned to normal just 2 days after. He has his 1 year check up this week so the doc will check it for any problems. Thanks for all your input and advise.

Cody has never wagged his tail. EVER. Having only had happy tail waggers previously (a Golden retriever mix for example - they are exemplary tail waggers), I initially found this very disconcerting, but I have learned to read his other signals to know when he is happy. It's weird to me, but his tails never moves with his emotions. Sometimes it relaxes and straightens when he is relaxed, but that's it. So, I just watch the rest of his body language to gauge how he's feeling. From what I see on this forum, it's not that uncommon. But - I am insanely jealous of those folks whose Basenjis wag!!!! LOL!
