@jalex Well, Welcome back home to NJ. I got some nice doggy coats from an online store Dover. Made just like a horse blanket so they don't slip to the side when the dog is doing a B500 run. There is a Dover store in Del Hockessin that lets you take your pup in for try on if you are not into measuring. I got a nice rain coat and a good heavy winter blankie for my girl. Regular doggy stores have lots of cute sweaters. Not sure about the boots. Lost my Basenji girl a year ago so never had a chance to try the boots. I think a fellow made them for his dogs. Will try to get the link and see how he goes about it. If I find out I will pass it along.

I do want to spend time with her - but I work 3 jobs now and when I got her I did not. Yes she was for the boy but he said he would spend time with her and all he does is let her out to pee and play for 20 mins then he is off with friends. I get home most night at 10pm during the week and then we go to bed. So she only see me some nights and on weekends - She sleeps with me at night and is a little cuddle bug. But I still feel like she more playtime that I can not give her. I am so upset about the whole thing and made at myself for thinking my son would be better. Kids just wanna play not take care of a puppy when he want to play with friends.
3 jobs is a lot. Kids say they want a pet then the novelty wears off quickly. Don't be too hard on yourself.

It sounds like she is a red and white with some sabling.
Who are her parents?
-
Well I looked up the kennel on the web and she has several breeds so I called her. (Betty) This what I found out.
I ask if she any Basenji puppies would be for sale in the fall of this year?
I was told no.
I ask did you know raise them in the past?
Yes and they are my favorite breed of dog but I had a hard time getting (RID) of them last litter.
I said I am just starting to look and had seen were some of the dogs had this fanconi test thing not sure what it is did you have to do that.
No there was no reason I had the same (stock) for seventeen years.
I then told her thank you for your time and she said wait a min I still have one female that is 5 months old.
I ask color?
Darker red color brindle with white.
I ask how much?
$400.00
Now I am not sure but if this is your puppy she is not giving it away.
If it sleeps with you at night and you have some time on weekends you could get your son to maybe go to park and maybe they could play ball frisby and he would learn to love her more.
What ever you do as much I hate to say this would you please make sure this puppy does get tested for Fanconi. Let us know what your going to do please and maybe everyone on here can help find a home if all else fails.
If I am incorrect about the breeder I am sorry this what I feel and see. Thank you let us know.Rita Jean

Regardless of what any of us think of the breeder, the right thing to do is to try and make sure the breeder, whoever it is, takes responsibility for what they have bred… and takes the pup back. Good news is she is not breeding any longer (at least not Basenjis)(there are a few of us on the Forum that are know of this person and her breeding)... So while this might not be a good breeder, at least she is taking this pup back.

KC2799 i feel so sorry for you and your little Basenji girl, i do hope you manage to get her sorted out.
I wish UK rescues could use this forum to make people aware of Basenjis needing rescuing. -
OMG she totally LIED TO ME. I am not giving my baby girl to her. AGHHHHHHHHHHHH I am going to do the best I can to make it work. I got home last night and she is SOOOOOOOOOOOO cute I can't stand her to go somewhere I don't know. IF I can not find someone I know to take her then I will keep her.
I am trying to figure out the best thing to do about the potty traing and peeing in her kennel. At 6 months old she shoudl be able to go at least 4 hours and it seems she can not. Should I start at square one again and try putting her in a smaller room like the bathroom with a potty pad and her kennel and let her roam in there and be able to go in and out of her kennel?
Also her kennel is in the landry room with the cat box - do you think this is why she wants to eat the cat poop? Do you think if I did not have her in the same room as the cat box she would stop eating the poop?
Also, My son is going to be away for 2 to 3 wks with so I neigbhor is going to come let her out a couple time during the day. but at least 3 days ech week she will not get any play time since I work LATE.
Am I being toally mean to her if she only get a little play time a day? My boy last night said he lets her out to play in the house at least 2 times maybe not for long but at least it something?
I am so afaid that I am being mean to her since I am not there much. I love her so much and she is soooooo cute and a cuddle bug at night. I want her to be a good well rounded happy dog.
thanks for your help.

Koda is not brindle so maybe JUST maybe she was talking about another litter??? I still don't think I want her getting her back to make a profit again. I want to know she was giving to someone to love her.
-
If you are not comfortable with her going to the breeder and there is no contract, then contact BRAT and allow them to help you place Koda. They screen their homes, do home visits, and vet checks. They offer support to the new owners and will make sure you girl is in a good home.
-
If it doesn't work out and you feel as if you need to give her up, please consider BRAT. They do extensive research as to who gets to adopt their dogs. They (usually) do not let just anybody take their dogs in, they have to have either had Basenjis before or some knowledge about them. My point you might not know where she goes but you should be rest assured she will go to a home that will love her like you do.
AS far as her potty problems, yes you might have to start at the beginning. She definitely should know not to have accidents by now. How is she at night? I think she might need more time out of the crate to play and just socialize with her humans. I am sorry to hear that you don't have the time, maybe your son needs to try more time out of the crate with her. Keep us posted. -
Good for you for keeping her and loving her it will get better like having a new baby as time goes little one will get better.
For myself I would use the puppy pad as bad as I dislike them it is better than a mess. I would put her in the bathroom and with her kennel. So maybe she will sleep in the kennel and potty on the pad and still be able to walk around and moved about. I would also give her several toys and a chew bone like a naylon one to play with. Maybe that will also help.
I know play time is important but so is having a loving home and someone to love you. I know your tried after working three jobs but stay up extra 5 mins or get up extra 5 mins and play ball or just play with her it will work itself out.
Your not mean what is mean is to get a puppy and love it and then give it back and never know who or what got it and what happen to the little girl. If you knew someone to me that would be different. She will be a happy dog just hang in there.
I would not keep her with cat litter box were she can get into it Jaycee been with us since March and she had a thing for cat litter it has to be what we feed our cats they have to get into the litter. Jaycee will still get into it today if we do not watch her and get after her.
Jaycee is 6 months old today and we never had hard time with potty in kennel but during day she would use her puppy pad and we only wanted her to go outside now that was hard to break. Seem like sometimes we would just go out and she would pee and come in and go to pad and pee again. Like what is wrong but we finally got over that hill.
I hope some of the others on here join in and help with there advice. Good Luck and lets us know how your doing. When get time ha! ha! post a picture.

So you think it will be okay to let her use the puppy pads again. Will she ever not need to pee on the puppy pads?
I do play with her in the morning and at night and My boy does some so I guess she will be fine - I was just worried becuase she does not seem to want to get potty trained.
What does Pat Fragassi mean about (betty) not being good breeder do you think I have a bad dog?????? she left a message on here to Tanza is the screen name?

In my opinion this is not a responsible breeder (except for the fact that she would take the pup back). First of all she doesn't do health testing for anything before breeding. All dogs being bred need to be DNA tested for Fanconi (please learn about Basenji health concerns including Fanconi at www.basenjihealth.org). And her comment about she doesn't need to test because she has had the same bloodlines for 17+ yrs is even more reason that she needed to test for Fanconi.
Also, if you are interested you can learn about how to find or look for a responsible breeder at the Basenji Club of America Site and their recommendations for finding a responsible breeder. http://www.basenji.org/learn/ScreeningBreeders.htm
So, you should have your Basenji tested asap for Fanconi for your own peace of mind. Details on testing can be found on the same site as above. It is a cheek swab that you do yourself and send in.
I would like to make one other point and that is regarding "selling" the pup again. Honestly, even a responsible breeder would most likely "re-sell" the pup. They would not just give it away, not even BRAT gives dogs away…. they all cost something... Biggest difference is with a responsible breeder and considering you had not had your pup long, a responsible breeder would have most likely refunded some or all of your money.... (I have no idea if this breeder would have done that)

Have you had Koda checked for a UTI? This is also a common cause for inappropriate peeing.
-
If Koda does not have a UTI and is only urinating in her crate then it may not be a housetraining issue. This may be a crate anxiety issue or separation anxiety issue and you will need to be able to commit some time to re-training.
Here is a good article about teaching crate training. http://askdryin.com/movies/CrateDogLR.pdf

No you do not have a bad Puppy just there are tests you can do because reeder did not do her job correctly. Your puppy is part of your family and you have a good puppy you love it and care for it. A bad puppy or dog is because of people (humans) we do not do our job.

oh I see - Yes she is a good puppy - thanks for all your help. I am going to talk to my boy and make sure she plays more with her - he told me last night that YOU CAN't GET rid of family mom and he is right cuz that is what I have also told him. So we will do our best to make sure she gets more play time.
-
thanks for your help and no she was not going to refund the Money. I just don't trust her now. I am going to keep her or find someone on my own to take her and care for her the correct way. I think she is happy - she just does not get to run much and she loves to run and play. Thanks again for your help.

You really need to look into Fanconi testing, it is very important for your peace of mind. Also learning about Basenji health concerns.
And if the need comes up that you do need to place her, contact Basenji Rescue (BRAT).. that is what they do….
-
I second Pat on Fanconi Testing.
I also second Pat please call (BRAT) if you just have to give her up.
I do not always agree or like what Pat has to say but in this case I more than agree.

Pat and Rita Jean are right, BRAT does do a wonderfuf job finding forever homes for b's who need it.
