    Hi everyone, I'm new to the site. I'm surprised I haven't found it before. I'm a certified vet tech and basenjis are my passion. My first dog as a child was a basenji and he was the best but when I went to college everyone disliked the breed for various reasons I'm sure you've all heard them. Ever since then my goal has been to become a breeder and make the wonderful qualities more known. I've done lots of research but I haven't started breeding because I don't want to be a back yard breeder. Does anyone have any tips or places to get quality breeding dogs?

    Welcome…no breeding info. from me, but I'm certain you'll get lots of feedback and have fun with others who share your passion for Basenjis!

    @rugosa LOL on the pig ear. But it's not just a basenji trait. One night it was storming and one of my rotts was fixated on one of the bedroom windows. I looked, there was a toad on the screen! The dog was so intense about wanting to get to it, my daughter went out in the rain and moved it from the window. From then until she died, day or night, I had to let her in the bedroom when it stormed to make sure the once-in-a-lifetime visitor wasn't there. They think more than many people give them credit for.

    She was just spayed saturday..she's having trouble holding it for more than 30 minutes or so at a time…this evening she has seemed to have done better..2 hrs without having a problem..i take her out every 4 hrs..and she does her business..both..she's only lived here for 2 days..so it's really hard to get any real data yet..if it continues after a few days i will be taking her to the vet to see if it's UTI related. we're getting a crate this evening so i can see if it's a matter of her needing to be housebroken..or if she really is still having pressure from the surgery. Auriaya..our cat..seems to be in an ok mood today..she has kept to her larger part of the house..and i have been keeping Cambria to a smaller area until the two have had enough encounters on their own and ours to attempt putting them together..she's not marking in front of me. she's due for a vet visit anyway so i have scheduled it as well..we'll see if there is anything major wrong with her

    @tanza: Of course the problem you have with bringing home a puppy that is only 8 or 10 weeks, is that they really need to have 2 sets of shots before being in a public place… and also the fact that they will not be leash trained to be in a public area. That is why when I place pups with someone that has a adult dog, I have them come to my house. I put them in the back yard and then bring the puppies out... Puppies are too young to have "territorial responses" to the yard and it is a netural place for the adults..... works quite well .... I do however put up all my adults in their crates during that time.... beings that we live in the middle of nowhere (hahaha:D ) we dont have anywhere really dog oriented to take them to meet.. like i said previously we are surrounded by christmas tree fields, and my boyfriends aunt lives maybe 500 feet down the road on a farm, with a big yard and pasture.. so maybe that will be the best place to introduce them

    Thanks for your replies. I've started giving Sonia Glucosamine w/ MSM every day and we'll see how she does. I'll give you an update in about a month and let you know if it's helped or not.
