I do need to come up with something a bit more comfortable for him and was thinking as he gets his balance better maybe he can go in a buddy seat behind me. We will see but for now he is still okay up in front. As he is only 5 months he still can't walk along for very long but that will also come as he gets older.
In regards to desensitizing my horses. All I can say that it is many miles of riding, wet saddle blankets and making sure that every scary monster or obstacle that you come across is introduced and explored. Also, having their trust and being the leader makes a big difference as they are accepting of anything that you ask. Dakota is especially accepting and I call him my "Star Trek Horse" as he bodly goes where no horse has gone before. He accepts any kind of vehicle, heavy logging equipment, chain saws, blowers, musical bands, all animals, sirens, lights, helicopters, parachutists and even had a remote control plane flying over our heads once. He is quite special. My other horses are pretty much the same but like to stop, look and assess more often. My husband and I laugh because we purchased a quarter mare 9 years ago and had her shipped over from the US. She is a daughter of a 3 time world champion reining and cutting stallion. Guess what? She is scared to death of Swiss cows in the field with big bells. But, in the arena she'll work them fine for cutting and team penning work. Who would figure.
Jenga is quite cautious around the horses when on the ground which is good. It is funny how he can pick up on a "stink eye" and know where his place is.
Donkey love

Thank you. This is the website: http://www.dierenparkamersfoort.nl/
There are, I believe, two other zoos where dogs are allowed. Rhenen: http://www.ouwehand.nl/ is one of them. In Arnhem it isn't allowed anymore: http://burgerszoo.nl.colo2.netmasters06.netmasters.nl/index.cfm?event=praktisch&info_id=31 -
Great pics! Good luck trying to train a donkey, may be almost as difficult as a Basenji :p
I love the collar on Tillo and the harness. Can you tell me where you purchased them? Hopefully online so I can get them without traveling to the Netherlands
Thanks!

Yes, training a donkey will probably be as hard as training a basenji It's all about asking.. not demanding
We bought Tillo's collar in Germany.. and his harness in a Dutch pet shop. It's a car harness. I guess it's also sold in the US..

Great pictures Janneke! I am jealous that you get to take Tillo to the zoo.
Mojo also has a donkey friend, his name is Billy. He is the lone donkey in a herd of horses where I used to live/work. The dogs had to do their business down by the fence and whenever I let Mojo out to go, he couldn't concentrate if Billy was over in that area. He just HAD to go try and play and pull out Billy fuzz. lol He could care less about the horses most of the time, except of course if they were running around being hyper idots.
My pictures are very poor and from a distance, but here's Mojo trying to entice Billy into a little play.
And yes, donkeys can be very stubborn!
-
In the second pic, is Mojo doing the Basenji neck twist? When Magnum does the neck twist (we call it "twisty neck"), it's always in frustration. Maybe Mojo is communicating to Billy, "Would you come on and PLAY already!?!?"

Great pics - let us know how the donkey training goes

I LOVE seeing all the pics of Tillo. It seems as if he's part of my family, watching and reading about him growing and training, and just being his 'Tillo' self. A handsome and well behaved 'senji.
Thanks for the pictures!!
(BTWβ¦I was giggling over the pictures when the DH says "what's so funny" and I answered "donkey love pictures". He was uncommonly quiet so I handed him my lap top and he started to laugh his fool head off!! He thought I ran across some kinky porn site:D)

Donkeys must be pretty good with dogs, but I have heard that horses maybe not so much. My friend's boxer got kicked by a horse and suffered with a lot of internal bruising and was put on prednisone⦠he was okay after the swelling went down, though.

I think Mojo was planning his next attack. lol He likes to leap up and grab the fur off Billy's chin/neck. Billy is quite the little instigator with all the poor horses so Mojo was right up his alley.
-
It depends on the horse. Some are afraid and skiddish around the dogs. Others are indifferent. And yet others get pissed and strike back! lol The farm dog at work used to be let out a lot in the mornings while we were herding in the horses from the field. This was a collie/ACD mix most likely and he did sometimes get a little too obnoxious with the horses. We had one or two that would chase the dog and the little guy did get kicked a couple times. He wasn't the brightest!
-
My boy doesn't mind the kids. This was Mojo's first birthday.
-
Those are beautiful pics, I love that look of curiosity on this breed's face!

We call it "rotate-o-head". Nemo does it all the time when he want to see what's going on behind him (particularly if someone is eating something). He'll just stay like that for a minute or so. You'd think it would be disorienting looking at the world upside down.

These are some of the cutest pictures I've ever seen!
