Just arrived minutes ago:

SHERWOOD'S RED BARON , cpp # 2430 tested PROBABLY CLEAR/NORMAL FOR FANCONI SYNDROME

None of Baron's 9 offspring (from 2 litters) will develop Fanconi Syndrome!

That is a huge relief about the cheek swab…She absolutely HATED having her blood drawn and has been mistrustful of the vet and vet techs ever since. I didn't not realize that there were many errors in the original test.

I stopped frequenting this forum shortly after I had her test done and haven't really heard anything from the basenji world until I got the e-mail. I will definitely get this re-test done as soon as possible and will pick up some strips tomorrow so I can start testing her urine. Thankfully she has not been showing any signs of poor health and has always done well on checkups.

I think the comment about age (puppies under a year) can not be counted as accurate yet is because Fanconi is late onset, so if they were to develope Fanconi, it would not be know now. But not sure if that is what you are asking?

I think I said clearly his results are seemingly about TESTING results, not actual development. So his results are accurate for TESTING, which is what he was posting, which has nothing to do with the age of the animal tested but only if it shows expected outcomes based on the sire/dam.

Age only has to do with outcome, not what his chart/results were about (ie if the linkage test results for sire/dam match what the offspring linkage test RESULT (not if they actually develop the disease)). Not sure how to make that clearer.

That's good news about Chance Vicky. At least you know you have to find a nice clear boy for Nakura now. You must be relieved.

Chance is Nakura's son so can't use him! The search continues. We need to encourage more people to test are there are only about 6 clear stud dogs in UK at moment. So not much too choose from there!!

As long as his CPP registration got entered before they received the blood sample, you'll hear eventually. If there was a delay in the registration, the blood results won't be posted and you'll have to call Liz.

to serenjane, We live north of Jax in Yulee and use the nasau veterniary hospital . We see Dr Kim Carter. She has been great in our basenji's care
She took care of our old basenji until he passed and she has had our new babies since they were a pup. I don't know if she is the best basenji vet in our area but she had certainly been great for our kids. Ours are not the first ones she has had. We always see her because her partner is not as versed in basenji's as kim is. Good luck on your hunt for a vet. I am sure there are vets in jax with lots of basenji experience. if you ask around you'll find the right one for you. Word of mouth helps alot.
