Goober has a new friend in the house. Her name is Luna and she is a Brittany.
Man do they have fun. We now have 3 Dogs and 2 cats.

Goober and Luna have a game I call King Of The Coffee Table. I don't understand how to play, but it sure is fun to watch them play.

new friends are always fun. I'm glad they are getting along so well. Would love to see pictures of "king of the coffee table"

Hi Vickayx, First let me say Dolce looks adorable. Her white face only makes her look distinguishd. As far as I can determine the only thing mentioned in Basenji Standards is that white should not predominate for her overall appearance and from what you have written you really dont seem to be planning on showing anyway. Years ago I bred Rodesians to show but as I got older I decided that what I wanted most was a little snuggle bug and went to rescue B's. spacicfically those who had had a hard life before me. We now have 2 four legged children who are always rooing to show how happy they are. Enjoy your new baby and remember to try and not let her know she is smarted.

Well I will tell you a couple of differences - walking basenjis you typically have 1 boy one girl - and stay away from other dogs. I can walk 2 or 3 bigs and 1 little and they just walk along - not as dog aggressive as some basenjis can be - still as food aggressive. Similar play styles - butt up. Since the basenjis at my house a Seniors - once the bigs get BIG I don't usually let them play together because a 2 year old big anything and a 10 or 15 year old anything not a good combination.

The hardest thing to get used to was - they bark. They are VERY attentive to everything outside of the yard when they are out and need to alert me.

A 57 lb dog in your lap is heavier than a 20 lb dog and takes up more space. Like basenjis I have some that are on your lap, some right next to you and some within arms length in case you drop something.

Like basenjis - they are a female led group BUT they don't seem to have to have that continuous discussion with each other on who is in charge.

I use 1 inch collars by Bison, the 10-16" size works well for all my dogs. I went with the Bison collars because they are the only quick release buckle collar that has been rugged enough for my basenjis. Bison started out as a climbing company so their materials had to be rugged enough for climbers, that quality has also been present in the collars that I have gotten from them.

For martingales and slip leads, I buy from All Hounds Apparel, http://www.allhoundsaparrel.com. She does several different widths. I like at least 1 inch for my dogs for any walking collar and prefer the widest I can get for coursing slip leads.

Of course the problem you have with bringing home a puppy that is only 8 or 10 weeks, is that they really need to have 2 sets of shots before being in a public place… and also the fact that they will not be leash trained to be in a public area.
That is why when I place pups with someone that has a adult dog, I have them come to my house. I put them in the back yard and then bring the puppies out... Puppies are too young to have "territorial responses" to the yard and it is a netural place for the adults..... works quite well .... I do however put up all my adults in their crates during that time....

beings that we live in the middle of nowhere (hahaha:D ) we dont have anywhere really dog oriented to take them to meet.. like i said previously we are surrounded by christmas tree fields, and my boyfriends aunt lives maybe 500 feet down the road on a farm, with a big yard and pasture.. so maybe that will be the best place to introduce them
