B in Culver City "dog pound"?

Basenjis For Sale or Wanted
  • At the Cheviot Hills Park this afternoon, I ran into a young girl who said that she was going to adopt a Basenji "tomorrow." Where are you getting it? I asked. She said, "The Culver City dog pound."

Does anyone in the Los Angeles area have any info about this B?

  • I just looked for it and found that Culver City DOES NOT have a dog pound. All animals from Culver City are turned into the Carson Shelter, I looked through all the dogs listed for the Carson shelter and there was no basenji's listed. I even looked through all the lost and found dogs. There were over 150 dogs listed.

Here's a link to the Culver City Animal Control Site link

  • I live in Culver city and WBL is right, they have no dog pound. They do use the Carson Shelter and I would think a B would have already been rescued from there by Karen from the So Cal Basenji Rescue.

@hilario23 Well done for coming to what is probably a hard decision, but the right one, both for your family and for the dog.

Only in a negative sense. There are none available. All breeders have lists spilling over to next year. But email me privately and I will send you a list of Breed Club Secretaries. If you get in quick, you will be my 184th enquiry since lockdown and I haven't bred for 10 years or more. No - you are too late already, 2 more in this morning. . . so you might make it to 186th on my list.

I would say that if one had planned to get a pup before this all occurred, then perhaps it would be good timing, as it would give one the opportunity of spending more time with the pup in the crucial early days. Of course things will change and the routine will be different, but there are ways to ease into the new schedule so it isn't an abrupt shift from always being there to suddenly being absent.

I see in the Member Introductions thread that Chloe has already been adopted and is being renamed Mowgli. How wonderful!

When I did rescue for BRAT - I didn't even charge anthing for expenses. When I"ve done rescue for BCOA or just because a basenji needed a new home - I've only charged anything if there were unique circumstances. I do take a 'deposit' of somewhere between 100 - 200. and place on a 2-3 week trial - if it works I return the money. I sometimes suggest a donation to a rescue organization. If I was doing LOTS of rescue though and had lots of expenses for health and transport - I would have to charge. I just laugh that a 'high volumn breeder' that I see her website - charges 3 times what the rest of us reputable breeders charge for her pets - oh well that's how it goes.
