I'm not the only Basenji owner?

  • Welcome and post a picture of Dingo for us…. unless in an injury, the ears are not floppy on a purebreed at least not that I have ever seen...

  • Thats a good question. My boyfriend met a brindle basenji named Oscar at the dog park with floppy ears. He asked the woman and she said he was an african, that he was pure just had floppy ears. From what my boyfriend said he sure looked like a basenji but the ears threw him off.
There is a picture of him in "wilysmom" member picture section, but its only a head shot. Anyway its nice to meet you and what a lucky pooch to have the family home everyday.

  • Thanx for the welcome! I'll have my daughter ,the 11 year old computer/camera whizkid post one soon.

I would doubt that was a pure bred either, again I have never seen a purebred Basenjis regardless if from the new Af blood (Avongara) or American breeding that ever had floppy ears…

Ditto, Pat. I was just thinking that I don't know of any Avongaras that both ears didn't come up.

  • Welcome to the forum, great intro, I hope to see pics of Dingo soon

  • Hopefully this computer won't be as stubborn as the dog is sometimes.Nope,I think I need a lower resolution photo, but I'm working on it!

If you are having problems because of resolution size, you can use a free photo uploading site and then link the photo from there.

I use www.dropshots.com and upload my pics full size to there, then the one that you can insert into the forum is resized to a perfect size

  • welcome kirk
I am in the same boat, the only thing that isn't "basenji" on my chili dog is his ears dont stand, capable but mostly droop. Welcome and enjoy.

  • Welcome! This is a fun site, whether he's mixed or not, to learn about the breed and have some fun too. They are unique!

Welcome aboard, but do share his registered name ? Who are Dad and Mom and what was his date of birth so we can be sure to add him to the Basenji pedigree on-line database (with a photo ???) for the world to share him. http://www.pedigrees.zandebasenjis.com/

Another thing I've done with mine, I use the patio door to get to the garage when we go for rides and the side door of the house when we go for walks (the front door is never used for anything). That way my dogs always head in a certain direction when "escaping" out a particular door. Although a trainer told me not to that (she insisted dogs need to be kept guessing), it has so far worked for me. Even when the two escapes happened, it was in the particular direction for that door.

Hi everyone, I just found this forum. I have had my 2 basenji's for 3 years coming this dec 29th. They are brother/sister. We are located here in peoria, az. They are a handful especially the male who gets into everything that is not nailed down. We did all the research and new what we were getting into, that why we have 2. A tired basenji is a good banenji. We take them to the "bark park" every weekend. Its their time to meet and greet everyone. Good luck one your pup..take lots of pictures. We have taken ours to Petsmart for the professional pictures every year. It takes about 1 hour until they get the right shot. My male is very active and moves alot. Right now the little girl has valley fever we are trying to get her tiger count down, but next year I want to add to our family, (if the male alowes it). lol:)

Hello and welcome. Maggie looks basenji to me too. I agree with what someone else wrote about the "deer legs." She is gorgeous and very lucky to have you in her life.
