We have a sleeper!
-
So after the worst night yet with Dallas & trying to get him to sleep in his crate I was so worried last night that I would get screaming times ten! Here were our evening activities:
He took a nap from about 5:30-7 PM. I woke him up at 7 PM & played with him for a while until my boyfriend came home. Then Mark played with him for a bit. We gave him a nylabone while we ate dinner (as is becoming routine in our household) then played more. I picked up his water bowl around 9 PM & then chased him around the house from 9-9:45 PM. By 10 he was so exhausted that he couldn't even keep his head up! I took him out for his final potty break & he actually fell asleep in the grass after a quick pee. :p I carried him back in the house & set him in the crate right on top of the warm soothing pad I had bought.
Guess what? Not a single whine came out! He sat there for a minute staring at us while we finished getting ready for bed, then was out cold within 1 minute! He slept until 2 AM (which was early for him to have to potty) but I took him out real quick for a pee then he went back to sleep again until around 5:45 AM.
This time he didn't go to bed quite as easily. He whined for while after I put him in the crate. I think he was cold because he was shivering a bit when I was carrying him inside. I grabbed my fleece blanket & stuck it in there & after managing to nuzzle underneath of it he fell asleep again & slept through my getting ready this morning around 6:15! :D
Now it seems that the warmth helped him calm down & sleep in the crate fine. I'm worried now that the thing I bought doesn't produce heat more than an hour at a time so when I take him outside he gets cold & doesn't want to go back to bed. Is this a sign that I should get him a snuggle kitty (I found a very limited supply online of the kitties. the pups are gone!) because the warmth lasts longer? I mean, the warmth on those last all night right?

Congrats - I don't think I could keep up with that amount of playing :)
Hah! I barely could & I'm only 22. I know I fell asleep VERY quick even though it was only 10:30 (about an hour earlier than I normally go to bed) because I was exhausted from chasing him around. I suppose it's a good thing for both of us though since we both end up ready for bed & crashing easily ;)

i got ya beat :D 11p-6a
I'm so jealous! Although right now, I am just grateful he fell asleep without the tantrum!

Okay now I'm really jealous! Dallas thankfully will go back to bed (at least he did this past weekend) & slept again until around 10!

Aw that is so cute! Dallas sometimes sleep with his legs stiff as well. I have yet to get him to go into his crate to sleep on his own! I tried the soothing dog again last night but Dallas wasn't interested in the least. I managed to move him gently from the couch to his crate though without him waking up so he didn't whine last night at first because of that.
Is that a dog bed under her or a blanket?
-
lol well… in her cage it is layered liek this:
-a towel to line the bottom
-a white doggy bed the size of the crate that has sides
-another towel on top of that
then..
-a little green round doggy bed on one side
-ANOTHER towel on the other side lol
-a pair of dans sweatpants that he cut off of himself because they got on his nerves... (haha i know.. he's an odd boyfriend)shes got a lot of toys in there too.. her kong wubba, a hippo, a rope, and a stuffed bone.

Hm…I suppose what dog could resist a crate layered like that? Dallas has a huge blanket, then a giant teddy bear, a small pillow & a fleece blanket (that I've been wrapping him up in to put him in the crate). He still won't go in unless he's being fed or given treats :p I don't know what else to try to convince him that the crate is a good place.
Do you crate her when you leave the house? If so, do you leave all that stuff in there with her?
-
yep. i go to college every day during the week and shes in there while im there.. her cage is always jam packed with stuff.. she gets treats when i leave/before bed. we leave the door open, and she goes right in herself when shes sleepy and not on the bed with us..
