  • Just wanted to say hello to all. I am new to the basenji "lifestyle" and look forward to leaning on the knowledge of the experienced owners. My B's name is chili, we call him chili dog, he is a male estimated by the vet to be no more than a year old.
He came to us from a friend who found him in a pretty desparate situation of life and death, he was found in the inter-coastal waterway here in florida with bloody paws from scratching at and trying to get up a sea wall(vet checked him out and he is very healthy).
So far he has been a great addition to our family, especially to my min-pin who lost his brother and play-mate this past year. I look forward to learning a lot and any hints are always welcome. Thanks for having us

  • Thank You for giving the Basenji a home. Welcome, hope the forum helps you with your new found friend! Pictures when you can…......enjoy!

  • Welcome to the forum and to the crazy "Basenji" lifestyle! Looking forward to hearing about your experience and maybe seeing some pictures!

  • How wonderful that chili dog was saved by you and your friend. I know you will see to it now that he knows he has won the "basenji lottery" and will have the pampered basenji life he deserves!

  • Hi and welcome!! Thanks for rescuing Chili Dog!! Can't wait to see pics.

  • Wow, that is a dramatic rescue story. Chili is one lucky basenji to be alive and in a loving home. Welcome! We are in Tampa, are you near-by?

  • Welcome to the pack and kudos for rescuing Chili !
You'll find it fun (both the forum and raising a beastie).

  • Welcome!!! Please send up some warmth to the Northeast :D My Bs neeeeeed some heat!!

  • I have had him for 4 days, as soon as he feels better from his neutering I will definitely post some pics, I hope I'm in the right forum, based on my vets knowledge she is the one that says he is a b, except his ears dont stand up, maybe they will as he gets older. He sure does act like one, from what I've read. And yes I'm near tampa, in land o lakes.

Basenji ears come up when they are six weeks old.. so if your boy has floppy ears, likely a mix… but you are still welcome here... so hurry up and post some pictures!!!!:D

  • Hi! That was some rescue. Glad to hear Chili found a loving home.

Aggression is an all encompassing term. As pointed out above, there is quite a range! It is not unusual for Basenjis to be dog aggressive. Mine is, and I just avoid other dogs because I know his intentions are not good. Some are same sex aggressive and fine with members of the opposite sex, and some may just be making a statement when they are leashed. If you describe what you are seeing more specifically I am sure lots of people will have common experiences and possible training fixes to share. I would love to see some pictures of Tucker, and welcome to the forum!
