What a talented Basenji!
Jennifer
I made my boyz new coats this week. They are made of windblock fleece and the boyz seem to like them although Brindlewonderkid got tired of having to try it on while it was in production. But all is forgiven now that we woke up to 2" of new snow this morning and he got to wear it to the Alzheimers home on Thurs. Of course Zpuppy tells me she needs a new coat too, but she wants one with BLING:rolleyes: so, well see what I can come up with.
Wonderful coats… (amazing how talented people are...I can't sew to save my life!)
Hey, looks like they really fit a Basenji, I just bought my Sahara a coat and to fit we sent in her measurements. You save yourself alot of money making them yourself, mine that I bought cost me $54. I will post a picture soon. Yours are so cute, posing and all.
Great coats! I bought cheap waterproof ones with fleece lining, and they don't fit well and the dogs won't wear them. I love how you did the contrasting trim! Where did you get the windblock fleece? I only need light coats down here, but when it gets cold (like tomorrow, 40's), it sure feels cold to us.

I got it off ebay a few years ago. Finding windblock fleece isn't easy. Malden Mills used to have it, but they no longer sell to the public, but some employees were going to open a store that was going to sell online.

Windblock fleece is pricey, but, if you live in such a climate, well worth the extra $$ as fleece is no barrier to wind. The really nice thing about the fabric I got for the boyz coats, is that it's all the same fabric. It is teal on one side and dk blue on the other, so what you're seeing, on both coats, is all the same. And I still have enough to make something for me.
Here's another link with some bonded fleece (it does NOT say it has windbloc or something equivalent, but it might do for FL)

If I find some, I'll try to remember to post it, but only after I've ordered what I want. :p
Um… Will you make some for my dogs?! Hmm... I'm serious!!

Those are great! Did you use a pattern? If so, where did you find it? I'm with the other Pat…I can't sew to save my life!!

Uhm, how many dogs are we talking about? I figure $30 for a basenji sized coat. (Mod's I applogize if selling items is against the rules here. I couldn't find anything about that and that was not my intent with starting this thread.) I did find red/blue windblock on ebay last night. If I could get a commitment for 2 coats out of that fabric, I'd buy it. (There's enough for 4, maybe 5 of that fabric.) If you have specific questions, let me know. If you'd rather not pay that much for a dog coat, There are some on ebay for a little cheaper (not much cheaper).
Pat- I did not use a pattern. I had 2 different jackets that I liked different things about and just sort of went with it. Here's a pic of my jacket flat on the floor
I did put in a curve on the back for the tail and all closures (2) are velcro.
Here's a free dog coat pattern if you're interested:

but it's quite different from my coats
That's fantastic! You really are talented
Seriously though, it's very hard to find good coats for basenjis..I'd be interested too!
