Can you tell there's a chill in the air

  • Ours also love to get close to the fireplace and one has singed his whiskers on teh glass a couple of times.

He will lay in teh bed and prop his head up on teh edge of the bed facing right at the fire for hours.

  • We made a fire the other night, the first since I got Ruby…she put her nose right up next to the glass and then quickly moved away. I said the same thing, if she hits it, she'll learn to stay a little further away. I'll have to remember the "toast" post :D ...as Ruby has the same very dark red coat.

The B (Zeke) we had when I was a kid would sleep underneath the franklin stove (the legs on a franklin are a taller than a regular wood stove) in the basement. When he would come out from under it, you couldn't touch his back or you would get burned. It was amazing.

  • @BasenjiDiva:

How do they do that!? I'll look over and see Cory sitting straight up, eyes closed, and head periodically nodding a little. It isn't like there isn't room for her to lie down to nap! It cracks me up how basenjis sleep - curled up like a little fox; or head stuck into a crevice in the sofa/chair/pillow as if the light bothers them; or legs stuck rigidly straight out like they've died and rigor mortis has set in.

    Pat

When Ruby's head starts to move because she's falling asleep sitting up, I call her "bobble head Ruby" :D.

  • Very cute! What a handsome boy!

  • What adoreable pics. Sleeping standing or sitting up must be a basenji trait. The doggie day care Hollie use to attend told me they often times saw her sleeping standing up. Like a kid I guess who's afraid they'll miss something. :D

  • Jazzy's Mom, your 2 are just so pretty. Your male B is amazing, I have noticed that Bs can and do sleep in the darnest positions. When I bought Sahara from the petstore I was driving home (a hour away) and to my amusement I looked and saw her standing up sleeping. I was like, I have never seen a dog do that, I should have known then that these dogs are different in many ways. I told my hubby that I think Bs are so amazing that they train you to NEVER want another breed of dogs.

Oh thanks! :D I think so, too, but I may be a bit prejudiced. ;)

My niece, who has three pit bulls and is a HUGE FAN of that breed, doesn't like the Basenjis because she says they are just not "dog-like" enough for her.
Makes me laugh because, aren't they MORE REAL dog-like than the man-made dogs? LOL

Her pits are easily trained; they are all about making her happy.
    Whatever….. :D

  • He looks like he is in total bliss. :)

  • Show Keoki is Daddy on the back of the newest B mag…
Keoki looks very much like Buka, well, when he is awake!

    Cool! A "famous" relative. :)

I'd love to see it; I wonder if the photo can be scanned and posted?

  • He is so handsome…especially by the fire...Nala's favorite place. She prefers the traditional sprawled out nap.

  • Lol Too Funny!!!

If you leave things in their reach (any puppy/young dog) will get into trouble.... pick things up.... put them away, they do not know the difference between their toys/chews and things like remotes/glasses/etc... they have your scent on them. You have to work on crate training if you can't secure a place for them.

Yep, I spent about 3 days trying to come up with names, searching online and asking my parents and brother for names all we came up with was Olivia, so her final name will be either "One in a million" Olivia Palito or Olivia Palito "One in a million" (Olivia Palito is the portuguese name for Olive in Popeye[Palito means toothpick]) I have a few more photos of her but won't be uploading them today so maybe tomorrow I'll upload some !

Yes, Bungwa will toss any of his toys into the air and catch them but definitely will not catch anything I throw. He has no competition because the others just look and say 'Boooring'!!! Interesting about your best hunters being fetchers, Quercus. I wonder if there's a reason in it or whether it's a coincidence!?
