    Cory sounds like a gem. The crating issue could be more of a separation anxiety issue. Have you tried a larger area for her (maybe an X-pen)? Congratulations on your new addition!

    Thank you all for the welcome and we especially enjoyed seeing Cory's sister and cousins! I tried to post several photos of Cory in the Member's Gallery but despite a message to the contrary, only one picture is appearing. It isn't necessarily the one I would have chosen if I'd known only one was going to appear. Oh well…I just hope the others aren't appearing as mystery pictures in other member galleries.

    She loves our 3 little grandchildren - aged 4 months, 20 months, and almost 4 yrs. She especially likes the older two whom I babysit 2 days a week. She "yodels" for them but they aren't quite sure if a real dog should be making a noise like that. I think she likes them so much because they can't put things up out of her reach. She especially steals from the 20 month old - often his pacifier. Cory has developed quite a taste for their Goldfish crackers.

    Hello and welcome, wanted to share a funny little story. I watch my niece a lot, she is 18 months old. She has only really been around my B (Deke) so when you ask her "what does a doggie say?" instead of the normal "woof woof" answer she only knows to pant !!!!!!! It's pretty fun. Oh and Deke loves goldfish crackers too. He cleans up after they leave….no vacuum needed here !

    My husband has always said that we should name our dogs after vacuum cleaners…......wouldn't that be a good name for a litter: Hoover, Kirby, Rainbow, Roomba, Dust Buster, etc. :D

    @Rita: Pat yes we did get Jaycee's AKC application at the time we got her. Have not got cert back yet as we were really slow in her name made us slow in mailing. Rita Jean Great, it would be good if you gave Sally W the information for her website to update the pedigrees. Many of us rely heavily on the pedigree site when thinking about breeding and researching dogs…. You can do contact Sally at Zande Basenjis (just do a seach for her website and drop her an email with the info)....

    Welcome to the forum. Great story too. I especially like the description of your other dog "Betty the Sheprador Chowtriever ." That's Funny! My basenji/whippet mix also came from a local shelter. She wasn't there long enough, or perhaps they didn't know much about bs, but they only had her listed as whippet mix. Didn't take long for a dog savy friend of mine to mention the word "basenji." No doubt in my mind, she is basenji and something. I picked her out and my mother paid for her. Best Christmas present I ever got!

    I wouldn't recommend getting a basenji until you've organized your new schedule with baby. basenjis are wonderful dogs, but require a lot of attention and stimulation. If you can't provide that, he could become a frustrated dog and cause mischeif. I've also read that they aren't the best with children. I haven't had the best experience with my basenji and daughter. It has a lot to do with the fact that we can't give him sufficient attention and exercise like he needs. he also hasn't adjusted to my daughter's presence either. that may not be a problem for you because you're having baby first then dog. they say its always a plus because it allows the child to establish a dominence over the dog, since child was there first. i don't want to be a sour apple, but i just want to let families with children know that it can be difficult and dangerous if proper care isn't given. its also unfair to the precious breed if they cant have the active life they need and crave.
