• you guys have such a great relashionship. Really sweet.

    You a great owner

  • @Duke:

This was entertaining. In a nutshell described some funny little Tucker querks. How amusing - that's why I'm so intrigued by this breed . . . unlike any other.

I can relate to this one:

Duke doesn't like this much either. He has a different reaction almost every time. I don't do it much, only when I want to tease him. But the cute part is when he tucks his nose as far as he can under my arm to avoid the breeze. A couple times, he slapped my face!!! (no wonder I don't do it much)

You know, I think they universally hate this…but it can easily be turned into kind of a fun/teasing game! We do this with ours...not Ivy too much, as she doesn't think much of teasing games...but the others think it is pretty funny! When I first tried it with Ariel I thought she MIGHT bite me 😉 She was like 'wha the...WHY would you do that!!!!' We also do a buzzing raspberr sound at Querk, which brings on QUITE a performance.

I too can relate to the blowing on the face one…
One of the ways I start play in doors with Ruby is to blow on her face. She usually tilts her head sideways (like she's saying, oh no, you didn't...) and then I'll do it again and play ensues. She's slapped my face more than once when I've wound her up :D.

  • I have yet to have any animal who likes human breath blown in their face, unless you just ate some kind of meat.

Would like like it if I blew in your face?

What did you eat for lunch?

  • Sahara loves games, I poke my finger at her and she tries to bite it, not in an agressive way b/c she has gotten me before, I can't hardly feel it. When I poke my finger, I move it right before she tries to catch it and she misses and then she will look away, hide her face like she is not looking and try to get it again. She is sooooo comicial, sometimes we play this for the longest time, she will watch my finger out of the corner of her eye, such fun these Basenjis. My hubby and I also double team her and chase her around the house doing the B-500, she is soooooooo fast and can turn on a dime, we wear her out. She will stop right in the middle of the chase and go get water out of her bowl, so funny!!! Then starts running again, sometimes I have to tell her to rest and we stop so she can catch her breath.

Actually the whole thing usually starts because Ruby does an investigation around my face right after I eat dinner…she wants to know what I ate, does intense sniffing and then usually licks my lips. I figure if she can lick my lips, I can blow in her face...it is a game to her and she loves it when I rough house with her. I love it until someone gets hurt...typically me...or tables get overturned 😃 when the B500s start with her running upstairs and all around the house. My 84yo father finds it all hilarious as part of the race track includes his lap.

The other thing that winds her up is when I dance to music on the tv...or now that Dancing with the Stars is on, when I do an impression of my brother dancing. He's got quite a belly on him, so I put a pillow under my shirt and this week did the foxtrot. Ruby loved it :D.

Yeah! Here's how it starts . . . I wouldn't think of being so rude by blowing at Duke until he's standing on my chest with his nose in my face. I blow on him to get him to back off. 😃 Then it just gets fun from there. But he usually starts it . . .

Wouldn't it be funny if dogs could blow?? 😃

  • That's why they snort and blow nose stuff all over you! Now, that's gross!

Forgot about that kind of blowing - eww nasty! But to breath in deep and blow out, pursed lips and all . . .:D

I had a friend who had 2 great pyreneese…basenji nose stuff is nothing compared to what those 2 could put out. Maybe that's why I'm not too bothered by a little basenji nose snort 😃 .

Oh, my! This made me literally laugh out loud!!!! Thank you for the hillarious visual!

  • renaultf1-LOL!!! That is hysterical 😃 😃 😃 I'm glad your father enjoys the B500. Your brother is on Dancing With The Stars??!! WOW 😃

My brother is definitely not on Dancing with the Stars :D, but he is definitely the butt (or I guess in this case, stomach) of the joke, and Ruby loves it…she looks at me like I've lost my mind, but then starts bouncing off the walls. Pretty funny. 😃

  • Wonderful sharing! You've captured so much in a nutshell.

Talker doesn't like you blowing on his face or his ears. Many times if he's acting up (starting to snark at another dog), I'll blow on his ears to get his attention–he looks up at me with that, "Why'd you do that for Mom!" face.

The other night he was lying next to my husband on the couch. He was all comfortable and my husband blew something off of Talker's back. Talker promptly got up and left the couch. My husband tried getting him back on the couch next to him and even tried to explained to Talker that something was on his back. Talker wouldn't have anything to do with him. It was funny.
