What Silly Things SCARE Your B??

Basenji Talk

  • Squiggy is fine with a lot but he jumps at sudden noises. He also likes everything in the house to be in its normal place. If I hang my purse on the wrong door knob and he doesnt see me doing it, it is just too funny. He has to do the creep up walk and then the long stretch to smell it and that is after atempting the creep/stretch a few times and jumping back and running around.
Our old dog, a Yorkie, would run back and forth and bark when we would open a can of biscuits. It would start with us showing the can to him, then the slow unwrapping of the paper and then the pop. I miss him, and making biscuits is just not as fun or funny.

  • Ours are afraid of the turtles and tortoises my Son's have….it's really funny to see the B's back away from those lighting fast creatures.

We have a wall with African Masks on it. There was one in particular that they where deathly affraid of to the point where we took it down. It was really creepy looking so I kind of understood.

That is EXACTLY how Topaz does it…:D :D It's so funny!!

She also jumps if one of us abruptly stands up from our seat :) I wonder what it will be like when we have kids & there will be a bunch of strange things!

  • HAHA its so funny when they get scared huh, lol. Jack stalks his reflection as well, lol…He just stares and then when he makes a sudden move at himself, he bolts, lol...

Two of my pups are placed in So Cal with a lady that has a tortoise… he (named fluffy) has been there for years and is, as you can image very "large".... when she was talking to me about getting a puppy I happened to be in So. Cal for a dog show so went and spent some time meeting and getting to know her (her last B had passed away at age 15, which she "found" just walking down the street in her neighborhood, never did find the owners and she had not a clue what kind of dog it was... only that she would give her a home... her Vet clued her in).... Anyway.. I had Fatia and Kristii with me... one look at that "creature" sent Kristii flying the other direction... while Fatia stalked it... and hard to stalk a tortoise that never moved!!! The best part was when she ventured to stand on top of the "strange smelling rock" and it MOVED!!!!! I believe her hackles were up for hours.....

  • Bouncing balls of any kind

  • @Mantis:

Cairo has been deathly afraid of his reflection at night for about 3 months. He stalks himself every night. When he gets close…..he runs away!! OVER and OVER and OVER....

Ditto! Duke scares the bee-jeeses out of the whole house when he barks at his reflection on the door wall glass at night. All is well when I close the blinds.

  • Oh Jack has scared me before, see my post…"My B Scared me to DEATH!!"

  • "For the most" part my boy does not give a darn about anything. Loud noises sudden movements, crowds, fireworks, earthquakes, escalators, elevators, different people walking in and out of the house ect, he just could not care less. The only thing I could think of, he's a little scared of my turtles when I put them in the bath tub he peeks from the bedroom door then he takes a couple of steps to look at them and decides to go back to peeking around the corner from the door. LOL

  • Shelby was startled once by deer while we were on a walk but she's curious about everything else, especially if Mom is there. Vince is a bit more fearful which is really funny because he looks more fearsome. He's very nervous of loud popping sounds like fireworks or cars backfiring but we joke that it's because he was in the mafia or a gang in NJ and is afraid of a drive-by.;)

The coat looks gorgeous - it's just the skin…I have noticed since it is persisting it down here (and cold - well it is Summer...) that the flaking is much better - I wonder if the flat is too dry for him? It has got central heating...which is till occasionally switched on - and it's nearly June :(

Wonderful sharing! You've captured so much in a nutshell. Talker doesn't like you blowing on his face or his ears. Many times if he's acting up (starting to snark at another dog), I'll blow on his ears to get his attention–he looks up at me with that, "Why'd you do that for Mom!" face. The other night he was lying next to my husband on the couch. He was all comfortable and my husband blew something off of Talker's back. Talker promptly got up and left the couch. My husband tried getting him back on the couch next to him and even tried to explained to Talker that something was on his back. Talker wouldn't have anything to do with him. It was funny.

I have had a couple of basenjis that howled occasionally in their sleep. That is really spooky, a long, low mournful howl, sitting up but asleep. I have never heard one scream while asleep. Our first screamer would do it to let you kow where he was, and that he wanted you to come to him. Sounds like what your boy did in the middle of the night! And it is nothing like a howl or yodel, it is a bloodcurdling scream! Anne in Tampa

We take our kids as many places as we can… hiking swimming running/jogging- nature trails parks doggie events (like ours!! www.firstgiving.org/bdawg) I've taken Lexi to do lure coursing a few years ago- it was fun, but she wasn't as in to it as I thought she might be; our dobie was FAR superior! lol
