@margiem Interesting link! If true, the basenji helps in the lion hunt, by impersonating prey and not by being the hunter...
B's and Cold…

With me having the other 2 dogs…that love snow by the way...I'm waiting to see if Abby will join right in with them. She is not found of rain.
-
Lexi hates the snow too. She will go out, start shivering, then cry until I pick her up– or she'll just try to jump into my arms... I think her feet just get too cold and it starts to hurt her-- even though she has a big furry coat I bought her.
Miles doesn't seem to mind at all. But he was a rescue and on the run for quite a while in the Penn winter... so maybe he's just used to it. I want to get him a jacket for this winter though.

Samantha is fine being out in the snow, until some cold, slushy snow gets between her toes, then she starts shrieking and wants to be picked up. I have to get it out and hold per paws in my hand a bit to warm them up. I also tried making some little doggie shoes out of some elk hide scraps that I had laying around. Total failure! She wouldn't have any of that.

I saw some pink dog booties yesterday at Pet Club–I think Lexi would look real cute in those Here in the CA Bay Area, I've never had a need for booties. But Max did have quite a collection of coats, sweaters, rain coats because he never did get a thicker coat during the winter. I got a cute little sun dress for Zoey at Target a few weeks ago, but I haven't shopped for their winter clothes yet. Zoey does not even like to walk on the grass in my backyard when it's wet in the a.m. from the sprinkler system, so I have a feeling she's not going to like the rain....Max hated the rain. He would get all excited to go on his walk, and I would tell him--it's raining out Max, you're not going to like that. But I'd have to take him out to see for himself--he would walk about a hundred feet, feel the rain, and turn around and head back to the house.....

Senji loves the snow, as long as it's not the slushy kind. He loves sticking his nose in EVERY single rabbit footprint that he comes across. He'll want to stay outside until his feet get so cold that he starts limping, and then he actually lets me pick him up. (He hates getting picked up!)

Being in the PNW, our b's have to go outside in the rain. I put rain coats with a warm lining, on them and we MAKE them walk.
I am always suprised how they treat snow so much differently…they will run in the snow until their toes are frozen...but rain,
not so much. -
We put a coat on our B. When it gets really cold, we add a sweater underneath. She doesn't complain too much unless she gets road salt between her pads. Then we have to pick her up and carry her. If the salt trucks have been out, I pick her up before crossing the road.
My husband says he wouldn't want another basenji because of the WI winters making her so miserable. I say "It's only 3 months and they are such a joy"

During the damp winters here, my dogs live in the Sally Wallis sweaters I have.
They demand these sweaters go on before hubby and I leave the house for work.
We keep the house at 62 when we are gone, the b's have tons of beds including mine to get under the covers…but they still want the sweaters.
If you want something nice to keep the dogs warm in, I would be happy to share her info.- I don't have hand made sweaters from England!* but my dogs do. LOL
-
Abby does like to "burrow" down in the covers…and doesn't mind being covered up.
-
My dogs get up for walking with Lou, 400am, then come back to the warm bed and are 2 mounds under the covers, until breakfast is served.
Who can blame them! -

62???? My goodness that is cold. I thought I was bad at 67.
-
Our dont mind snow but they tend to want to stay out too long and can easily get frost bite on their ears & feet, they don't realize it.

Yes, please share the info. I found some sweaters online that look nice, but would love some other options.

Jack loves the snow, he goes and rolls in it, lays in it, paws at it, lol. EATS it…We bought him a doggie fleece coat last winter tho, he doesn't mind wearing it at all, but he definitely prefers to be outside. LOVES begin out!! lol...

Here is her site.
I must tell you, they are great, last a long time, and easy to clean.
If you get one, let me know what you think.
My b's love them! -
This is how we suit Nala up for a cold VT day…the boots are for when it is really cold and icy. Muttluks are the brand. Her jacket is from a local shop that is no longer in business, but it has nylon on the outside and fleece on the inside and cinches up around the "waist" with a bungee type cord.

Very cute outfit!:D Nala see's plenty of snow, that's for sure.

Reminds me of the Christmas story, where the boy wants a RR pellet gun…
His mom getting little brother ready to walk to school.
Always makes me laugh. Is you b able to run with all this gear on?
I don't know how you live in such a cold place! -
Our used to wear sweaters than on winter he decided to have none of it and would try to rip them off.
I still laugh about when he tried doggy boots, they were bright yellow and he looked like a four legged duck. They did not stay on long either.
