Jack Likes a Good Pat!!

Basenji Talk

  • So i was wondering if any of the other Basenji's out there like a good pat after they eat or whenever actually!!?? If i pat his back after he eats or drinks he burps like a little baby!! LOL…and sometimes he'll just come up to me and lay on my lap and i know he wants to be patted!! hahaa. When ever i do, he slowly nods off! or flattens his ears out, uncurls his tail and gives me a dirty look if i stop!! He likes it best when i pat his back or tummy! So i thought it was really funny, and I'm wondering if its just my Jack that prefers a Pat to a Pet...hmmm?? Let me know!!:p

  • Our dogs seem to like it, but burp up their stomach a little and swallow it.

I think it might be a regurgitative reflex dogs have to feed their young, or my dogs are trying to tell me something- breath mints?

  • LOL…Ive seen Jack regurgitate during a burp before, its gross, but usually its a very human like BUUURP...lol, my hubby sometimes says, Jeez Kira was that you!!?? I'm like...NOOO its Jackers again, I'm patting his back...lol. Its so funny, and so weird really, JUST like a baby!! ha ha. I guess hes getting me ready. I'm 37 weeks today so I'm full term, ANY day now....scary!

  • Sawyer will stop eating, walk over to me, burp, then go back to eating.:p

  • Jazzy burps, very loudly, after every meal or treat. Yup, she's a real lady.

I don't think Keoki burps as often . . . I wish he did, as he prefers to expel his gases in another way that is not quite as humorous as a good Basenji burp, kwim? I've never had a dog w/"other gas" as often or as potent as this little boy of mine. LOL

  • eww, stinky!! lol…Jackers does it to, catches us completely off guard EVERY time, lol...peee ewwwww

  • When Max would pass gas, it would be so funny–it would surprise him--he would look startled by the noise and start sniffing the air like he was trying to figure out where the smell was coming from. Then he would turn around and sniff his little rear and then look like he was confused. :) Like--how could that come out of there??

Haha…Jack hasnt ever done that, he just sleeps thru it or looks at us like, "yea, that was me...what are you going to do about it"...But i still think its FUNNY that he burps like a baby when i pat his back, lol!! SO random!!

  • Wait till your kid throws up and it's a mad dash on who can get to it first.

    Dogs can be so disgusting!

  • I will not mention what dogs will try to do with the babies dirty nappies…
Make sure to put them up where the dog can't get them...or under the sink in a locked container.
My great neice came over last weekend with 16 mo old Baby Joseph James...
    She doesn't have dogs.
Let me just say, it was not pretty!

  • this topic is so gross! LOL…..

  • Yep - veering off topic, but because Capt Jack's mom is due anytime . . . the inevitable is bound to happen. Unless, someone gives her a heads up to take extra care Jack doesn't get the chance to indulge in the "gross". Let us know, IF you can find the time after you deliver, Jack's mom. From my own experience, poor little Jack will be put on the back burner for quite

  • What the heck happened? Too many "Post Quick Replies" without my approval??

  • Maybe a BURP in the system???
    Sorry, couldn't resist!

  • Haa-haa! - a BURP!! Do you know how hard it is to type with Duke on my lap between my arms, in front of the screen? A li'l hard to be perfect.

  • **HAHAA!! Well i must say, im not looking forward to JAck getting into all the babys things…including the gross stuff!! Im going to post a topic actually about the babys room is you all could take a moment to read and post to it, id LOVE ANY and ALL advice about Basenji's and my soon to be Baby Hayes!! lol

  • Dogs are the clean up crew of the household kingdom, be it toys or garbage,

  • Yes, its not too early to get the trashcans locked up.
However, you will only "forget" to p/u the items once.
    Laugh!
The bad news is the dirty "items" can make the dog very sick.
    Running to the vet sick.
The plastic alone is scary, what that can do to the internal workings of a b's tummy.

Just wanted to give an update on my experience and hope that it helps others in the future. So I did get the puppy and have had her now for about 6-7 weeks. She is doing AWESOME! Shes completely healthy, and at 14-15 weeks, is incredibly obedient. For instance, I take her to the dog park, and she recalls every time I say "Nani come." There are also some agility obstacles in the park which I'm starting to train her on and she does really well with simple things like walking up, down, sitting, staying, gonig through the tunnels, etc… When I give her her food, I make her sit, stay, and give me a fist bump before she can eat, and I'll switch the order up every time. I then say "now you can have it" and then she eats. Its to the point now, where she is in the kitchen, and I'll go to my room, come back in 2-3min, and she is still sitting by the food and hasn't even touched it yet until I give the command. She is doing fantastic! Fantastic with other dogs, fantastic with kids, adults, everything. She doesn't have a tendency anymore either now to chew on things she's not supposed to and when she does get the urge, she looks for her toys. Not sure if this is just because the breed itself is very intelligent, or the breeder, or a mix of both but I couldn't have asked for a better puppy, especially the way she is now at the age of 14-15 weeks. My allergies also do very well around her whcih is HUGE! Not sure if I just got lucky or what, but she is great a puppy for how obedient she is already, her compassion, and her behavior. Just simply amazing :-)

We just got back from 5 days in Maui. Had to put our Laika in a kennel which we found after a long search. It was not easy to leave her there, she did ok we think. But was so glad to see us. We really hated to do this as we adopted her from a kennel 6 month ago. All our travel will now be by car only so we can take her. My husband had to pat everydog he saw in Maui. She is his baby. Too funny - it reminds me of my previous beastie's tricks. I would sit down to lunch when he would distract me by doing something he knew he shouldn't. When I got up to go see - he'd go around to the kitchen the other way (I have two entries into the kitchen) and snatch the sandwich off the table. :D

Thanks, Jodie. I don't think Mags gives a rip about the song ("Just rub and scratch, no singing necessary, PLEASE!"), but it makes me feel happy!
