I have an alpha female basenji and brought a newborn into our family. I was in the hospital for four days (my in laws stayed with dog and horse), when we came home, we had my Mom bring her new boyfriend. He was a great distraction, but also allowed me some alone time with Cricket. When they left, she noticed the baby in the bassinet and was a bit concerned. She adapted to the baby, but I don't leave them alone just in case. Cricket is not nearly as jealous as she was, now that he drops food for her at the table, but she did get a bit jealous for a few weeks. While I was pregnant, I was told that 'the test' was to play baby crying videos on YouTube. How the dog reacts will tell you how they will interact with the baby. Cricket beat the crap out of my phone when I tried… So not a great test! :)

Arwen has the Chow Chow mentality– you threw it? You go get it. She would occasionally get something just to annoy the Rottie, occasionally in the house to stop Cara. Cara-- fetching fool.

My B too lost some spunk during teething…less appetite, loose stools as well. About two weeks ago she got her last two big girl teeth in (her canines) and all went back to normal.

I have seen Mica when she goes on point with her tail straight out and her front and back paws CAREFULLY matching each step chatter her jaw - It kind of goes open and shut and wanders open and shut that way. She is like an arrow waiting to fly out of the bow onto the suspected target. She never stops that behavior, either. Than she makes a mad dash for the squirrel or critter and will do doggie-ups on the side of a tree - maybe 6-8 feet up the side than down. Than shell do it again just because she has to try again. I think she is getting some really strong chest muscles. I think it might me intense excitement and anticipation. Micas mom
