  • if you couldnt see them well enough here are a few more pics….LOL.....

the one big is to show the 3 sizes, the red ones are puppy safety chokes. the med ones are the standard ones for basenjis, and the large are used with whippets or in Caesar's case a nice long neck. LOL

The green one is super old and beta was a chewer. She actually ate one of these collars completely(including tags) and passed it in pieces! That was right after I bought it and her first collar experience....

the solution with chewers is to keep it tighter. the med yellow one was hers and she never chewed on that one.

  • Betsey you have quite a collection here :D :D WOW!

  • LOL, yeah I know, crazy right?
Well, in that big picture the two middle sized ones that are dark blue and green are so beat up that I dont use them anymore. They are hard to throw away though. I use them sometimes when we go to the wet dog park.

The two big ones are with ribbon that i sent to him. You can see the light blue one is a bit tattered compared to the yellow which is my fault in choosing something not durable…..but it is sooooo much fun to go to Joanne's fabric and pick out something cool for your b.

    They are soooo cheap!

  • oh yeah, and the puppy one fits Cairo like a champ. He was introduced to it this past weekend and hasnt tried to eat it yet. We went for our first collar leash walk yesterday and it tightened at the perfect place that didnt choke him. I was very pleased with the size…...

I definately do not leave it on him in the kennel yet, or Caesar's. Beta ate off Caesar's safety choke once....learned my lesson...and Cairo is such a chewer right now....

  • Great collars, where'd you get them from

  • You are the Emeld Marcos of dog collars, Betsey! Do you have as many shoes as they do collars?? LOL! The pictures are adorable and the collars look really nice on them…

  • Um, Emelda…oops!

  • Great collars, where'd you get them from

there is a website listed at the beginning of this thread or you can email Nick directly at k9collars@aol.com

    He is super friendly!!

and yes, I do have a few shoes…..:D

  • Is this Nick Russell of MastersPride?

If so, we have a leather collar that does not slip down the neck and works well with them pulling. I put it high on the neck and Talker and Savannah will stop.

But these collars that you posted the pixs looks really nice. Do you have the website?

There's nothing like a basenji in the works, from the way they instinctively lay with their had on the bum looking the other way ( I've never met a B that doesn't) to the way you KNOW they all rub on wet towels or play bow…it's all very endearing and in this breed you often identify traits that they all have, an insight into their genetics and their behaviors. I've never enjoyed a breed so much.

My Basenji Billy is quite undershot; he's a purebred, his bottom jaw just didn't stop growing when it was supposed to. That's okay, I'm a bit of a sucker for a dog with an underbite anyway.:) He was my first rescue Basenji.

@Thana: she does have basenji characteristics then apart from her colours and looks.- i also think she must have some basenji blood! She is lovely and lucky no matter what! adorable little face:))))) Having read about the characteristics I think she does. The lady with the basenji that we met also commented on some of the things she was doing as "very basenji" (eg. standing on her back legs so she could see what was going on). Has a lovely wrinkly forehead too. Got very frustrated with me earlier and did her funny bark, more of a wierd howl really. She is def one of a kind. Its a shame we have to have her spayed (not that I could ever justify letting her have a litter).

@phoenix3: Looks like a B to me but i think more of a B mix he looks like he has corse hair Maybe be has the size of a cattledog body and a basenji head :) My Aspen is a cattledog/ terrier mix he has the body of a cattledog {the colors} and the height and face of a terrier heres a pic so u can see the colors of the cattledog well one color anyways :D :D phoenix3 - this is Aspen? I'm so amazed at her spots, because my Daisy has spots like Aspens. We know her mother is pure R/W Basenji and she is thought her other half Beagle. One of her other litter mate moms thought Blue Healer (cattledog). But I subscribed to the Beagle. Daisy could be … Cattle Dog I suppose. She's bigger than Duke now at almost 9 months old. I will show her off soon on "Show Off" forum soon.

OMG, TRUST me…its not only ur baby, Jack has some seporation anxiety, i mean, we rescued him so that may be why, but i Always feel so sad when we leave him, he runs to the window and crys when we leave, but i KNOW it wonly lasts until he cant see us anymore (driving away) my neighbor watched for me. but SOMETIMES he does get into things when we leave for too long. like the other day, when he ate my betta fish food...grr...
