This is the doghouse we used for years for our outdoor Border Collie. I realize Alberta can be colder (although we have seen -30C at this location), but you are talking about daytime use, not overnight. We used straw for bedding, and when my dog emerged in the morning after a cold night, he was quite warm and the interior of the house was also (I checked). Sized and insulated correctly, this design will keep a dog warm. (you could obviously change the dimensions to allow for more insulation if necessary). The only caveat is, will he use it? My BC was happy to retire to his house for the night, but during the day tended to lie in the "porch" so he could see what was going on. Of course, much of the day he spent his time with me, so it was a non issue. (one addition…...we put a couple of cement blocks on the roof after it blew off one day in a windstorm!) http://www.kwhumane.com/uploads/Documents/Ideal_Doghouse.pdf

Tucker just hops on the bed and lies down beside us. We've gotten used to it and just ignore him… ;)

My dogs were very "clingy" when I was pregnant & the same with Tayda when she stayed with us one weekend. :)

Your right, Terry, sometimes they do break the rules… or some breeders are willing to ship... I am just not one of them...

sort of. The friend of mine who worked with the chimps said they were very poorly funded and were in need of a lot of things OSU wasn't able/willing to support anymore. It must have been horrible for her since that was her lifes work and I am sure they were her "babies"

The fast solution is simple and not pleasing… but papermatching WORKS. http://www.woodhavenlabs.com/tplo-normal.html Take a paper match and wet the head of the match in your mouth for a few seconds. Then take the match and insert the head end first into the dog's rectum. Make sure part of the match is hanging out. Within a few seconds the dog should start to get into the position to poop and be successful at doing so. (I had to do this for Darby for about 2-3 weeks)<< So you papermatch and praise like crazy. As for tying him out, most can chew through MOST lines so I would be careful. Better to papermatch til he will go on command in your own yard. Also, how secure is your yard? Can you put him out while you are getting son ready for school alone? However, getting up a bit early to MAKE him potty, THEN secure him (get clips on cage so he cannot escape!) in crate while you take child to school, is better. Btw, 2 wks is a short time, it will all come together! :) Debra
