Muzzle size?

Basenji Health Issues & Questions
  • I have to buy a basket/cage muzzle for an upcoming appointment Oakley has and I was wondering if anyone had a good recommendation for a brand? I'm looking at the Guardian Gear muzzle, I have to measure Oakley but I was wondering generally what size muzzle they take?

  • My Cosmo has one and it's a Size 1. It fits her comfortably and she doesn't mind the few times I put it on her (with treats, of course :) ).

  • So I measured Oakley and his length is 3" and circumference is 8….
And guardian tells you to add 1" to small/medium breeds..would you deduce an xs?

Muzzle Size * *Muzzle Width * * * Snout Circumference
    XXX-Small * * 3 1/2" * * * * * * * * * 7"
    XX-Small * * * * 4" * * * * * * * * * * * * 8"
    X-Small * * * * * *4 1/4" * * * * * * * * * * 9"
    Small * * * * * *5 1/4" * * * * * * * * * * * 10"
    Medium * * * * * *5 1/2" * * * * * * * * * * * 12"
    Large * * * * * *6 1/4" * * * * * * * * * * * 13"
    X-Large * * * * * *6 3/4" * * * * * * * * * * * 15"

Measure the circumference midway between the tip of the nose and eyes. Add 1" for small/medium breeds and 2" for large breeds.

  • I have that type also. But I have the mesh too which I think is a bit cooler.

I went to look and mine says size 4 so not much help as I don't know the brand, pretty sure got at pet smart.

I guess that size works. Cosmo has the same snout measurement as Oakley.

On Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Guardian-Lined-Nylon-Muzzle-2-Inch/dp/B000RRM4GO), that brand you mentioned had this image: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61T-R21S12L.SX355.jpg

  • I hope it fits, I ordered it and he needs to have it in order to attend a doctors appointment on the 30th…if it doesn't fit I will ask the vet to borrow one... I don't dislike the mesh, but I feel like the basket muzzle gives a better opportunity to pant, of which he will. He has only ever worn a muzzle once and so I am nervous he will fight it so I'm hoping to introduce it as soon as it comes. I'm not necessarily comfortable with using a muzzle but at the very least its good he get accustomed to one, especially if he will be lure coursing with others

@elbrant said in Bordatella and Canine Influenza Vaccines: @Saving said in Bordatella and Canine Influenza Vaccines: divisive I guess I'm a dreamer.... but I believe that adults can have discussions and opinions without resorting to name calling and rude remarks. Your input is valuable. Thanks, because it's become a religion as soon as you speak against it people get so offended. The last 3 years has shown that quite clearly @Saving said in Bordatella and Canine Influenza Vaccines: Another friend's dog has a swollen leg at the vaccination site of his booster which is not resolving I"m sorry to hear about your friend's loss and understand the concern about the other friend's swollen leg. I had a similar experience, one of my dog's (not doodle) had a grossly swollen leg following a vet visit. The Vet told me it was cancer and I opted to let her go. Month's later I read online that it could have been the result of an allergic reaction. Please advise your friend to research possible answers before she makes a decision. Will do, a lot of the medication/vaccines cause inflammatory responses so it could just be that, it's still not nice for the dog to have that experience @Saving said in Bordatella and Canine Influenza Vaccines: dry food ... suffering from malnutrition omgosh! That is so scary!! I doubt the big manufacturers would ever allow a real study to see the light of day, but I would love to see one done. Just the thought makes me want to keep feeding my girl human grade foods. Yeah the same here, her research indicated that raw chicken wings were the optimal food and contain pretty much everything needed. I guess if you think of some of the processed crap they have in supermarkets trading as food for humans you can imagine how low the bar can go for pet food.

@serenjane My Kembe had the freckles on her neck - more pronounced in summer months w/ the sun and also as she aged. I use to call her my little 🦒 giraffe. 😂

@tanza things have changed here, and not for the better. When I was first passed (by the Kennel Club) to give CCs the criteria was you must have had 100 dogs under you at open show level and have judged a club Open Show. Within a few years judges who had had less than 30 dogs under them in Opens were awarding CCs. Heaven alone knows what the criteria is now.

Ditto OMG! Gossy is also a rock hound. She ignores little pebbles but gnaws on palm-sized rocks!
