Great Pics… who did you get Max from? Many of us are related by our Basenjis

Crazy story how I got Max. On June 5, 2009 I lost my old dog he & I were hit by a car that ran a red light. I survived my dog didn't… After that I thought about what type of dog I would like to have... Always liked Basenjis so the next few months I did some research on Basenjis. Met a few breeders, and went to a few dog shows, but I just wasn't ready for a new dog. Then on June 5, 2010 I was sitting at home watching tv & thought let's see what dogs are available for adoption at the local humane society, and there was Max. I couldn't believe it!!!
Rushed over to the humane society, and was the 1st day Max was available for adoption. Worked out perfect I needed a Basenji and he needed me. Here are a few photos of that day!

  • Awww, i love stories with happy endings, or is it happy beginnings?

Happy beginnings for sure…. I have one basenji I see you have 3 what is that like? Must be interesting
    Cheers

  • Love your adoption story, you were obviously meant for each other. He is adorable, a very lucky little basenji boy.

Many of us have multiple basenjis! Living with three is wonderful, when they are young they keep each other occupied and busy, and as they age they become (hopefully) best buddies. Especially if you have one with separation anxiety, having a partner for them to stay home with seems to really help.

Your photos of Max are great, he is very cute, glad you joined us!

  • Welcome to you and Max- he looks a lovely boy. Your story of how you got him shows that you were meant for each other!

Sadly my old guys have never been best buddies.

3 isn't really too much work right now as 2 of mine are old guys. Digital is almost 15.5 and Jet is 14.5 years. Hard to believe and not too much wrong with them.

  • First Basenji's

Max has a darling, expressive face. And I really like that yellow "sunning" platform.

Lovely adoption story too. You say (or the humane society said) that he's a mix? He basically looks full Basenji to me!

Yep Max is all basenji and he loves to lay in the sun.

I reread your first post and I think I saw where I got my wires crossed at Max/mix. Haha, never mind me. 😉

  • Max was 4 months old in this video. Shepherd was 1 year old & today Max & Shepherd are good friends.
