    I'm new here but not new in taking care of dogs. Planning to have a basenji. And this is a way to research for them. Thanks!

    Welcome. This is a good place to find out if a Basenji is the right dog for you. Spend some time on the "behaviour issues" forum. Although you see a lot of "worst case" scenarios, it's better to know the worst, although with luck and the right choice, I hope you experience only the best of our breed. :) They are wonderful, interesting companions, but they are not for everyone.

    Welcome! What type of dogs have you owned in the past? And how do you like CATS? If you're a person who likes attentive, devoted, obedient dogs to whom you're the centre of the universe, you might not be happy with a Basenji. Ditto if you're considering a Basenji largely because they're hypoallergenic (not!) clean & quiet.

    Please go to www.basenjirescue.org and read the reality stories. Not all b's do these things, but some of them do. Its good info to see if your
    able to laugh when you come home to their being "busy".

    At 18 months and 7lbs I very much doubt that he's got Basenji in him but who knows. It doesn't matter,- he's a delightfulchap and good to have you both on here. Looking forward to more pictures.

    Wow, that was pretty awesome of you to take care of the sick pup and bring her back to health! No, my cats are not sphynx. One is your typical house cat and the others are himalayans. We are praying that our next puppy is healthy and normal as we have not had much luck with dogs here lately.

    Wow - your 5th! See I had a sense there you had some major B experience ;) We picked up Jack early that day, think we might have been the first to arrive, and only met one other man picking up a little girl, Stella, he lived in NY city I think. I think there was another couple arriving just after we left for the other little boy in the litter, that might be who you saw. I tell you when I walked in, I was just completely in awe of all those precious pups! So tiny, I just did not picture so tiny! We are on Doris's list for a little girl if we are lucky out of a breeding this fall. Jack needs a playmate!!! Well so nice to connect with you and hope to continue to do so. Good luck with your shows!

    @lvoss: Even these breeds shed. Anything that has hair will shed. Anyone with long hair can tell you that. I find strands of my hair on things all the time. If it has hair then it sheds. Some breeds like poodles, bichons, etc shed much less and the hair is different so people with allergies to dog hair are less likely to react. It is a bit different then shedding and by the way, short hair falls out too :D .. the hair falls out… it is usually mostly the dander that gets people's allergies going....
