Almost Basenji

  • I agree, talk about the "best" from both breeds…. :-)....

  • Thank you all for the warm welcome :)
I will post pics soon. She is a handful, more so than any other dog I've trained. The problem is, she is the best manipulator that I've come across! And I thought Border Collies were bad, but she definitely has a mind of her own and isn't all about the "willing to please" part. Her name is Macy, mine actually is Karen, but that username was taken, so I opted for hers. I just read on here that Dr. Yin has a new book out and (well I should probably post this elsewhere) but has anyone read that one yet?

  • LOL, welcome. So is it a Basenier or Tersenji? Yep, joy and a whole lot of sense of humor will be required.

  • Welcome to the forum! I too anxiously await pictures of her.

She will keep you plenty busy, so hold on for the ride!

  • @Macy:

Thank you all for the warm welcome :)

Ahh yes the mind of the basenji. Quick to learn and never forget and masters of manipulation. Look mom how cute my wrinkles are…..or the whole......hahaha I am being bad over here come see what I am doing so you leave your food unattended then I can make a B-line for it. Hahahahaha B-line.

  • LOL! I see that y'all are well acquainted with the manipulation. What cracks me up the most (and she knows how to use it) is the silly grins she gets when she knows she in a whole lot of trouble:D
I have also posted pictures of her, enjoy :)

  • Hello and welcome from Canada! Outwit,Out think and Pray!

  • Welcome to the forum. Yes, they are masters of manipulation, and the Jack Russell will add stubbornness in excess of the usual. Should be a fun ride!

  • Thank you. And yes the stubbornness is already showing, that's okay though, I am stubborn as well, seems to work ;)
Love your tag line! So true, so true. I didn't realize, outside of Border Collies, how intelligent dogs could be, but I am quickly realizing that the Basenji has them all beat!

  • I absolutely will do a dna test on our new baby,,,you have me curious.

  • @Rhonlynn:

I absolutely will do a dna test on our new baby,,,you have me curious.

That dna test has paid for itself over and over again. I'm sure you won't regret it :)

  • If I new he was for sure part basenji, I'd raise him that way…I will get it in a week, and do the dna test.

  • Keep us posted on what you find out. It's so exciting that we now know and I feel better equipped at meeting her needs.

@nouno: His parents are also in Cyprus. His mother is 4 years old. Did not have any problems. His father is 2 years old and also did not have any problems. Not yet. Is too expensive as I have to send all the test to the USA. But I will get through with it as long as I am able to. Age that Fanconi can show up is from usually 3 years all the way till over 10 years
