• Believe it or not, I use Murphy's Oil Soap to bathe the dogs. It does a great job cleaning the coat and leaves the coat soft and smelling fresh for days.

  • I don't wash mine often. But when I do bathe them, I typically use Virbac Epi-Soothe or Biogroom Waterless Bath. For conditioner (only during the winter) I use a homeopathic herbal oatmeal & aloe spray.

  • We only wash them when it's really neccesairy, with Tee three oil.
    It's calming and caring

  • I bathe infrequently, but when I do, I use baby shampoo on face, and either a deep cleaning shampoo, such as 'Critter Clean' if they are very dirty, or more usually and oatmeal shampoo. I find it the oatmeal shampoo less drying on their skin. Whatever you use, just make sure ALL the shampoo is rinsed out. If it dries on the skin, the skin gets itchy and will pick up dirt faster.

  • I use Halo, it's pretty natural, cleans well and washes out easily.

  • Although a bath is a rarity in our house, when it's done we use Vet - which we got at our vet's office, (no duh). It's Aloe and Oatmeal, and soapless. It smells nice, gets the pups nice and clean, rinses out easily, and because it's soapless there's no drying of the skin and the fur shines reall well when they dry.

  • Maybe I'm a bad mom, but I use my shampoo, diluted, on the rare occasions that I bathe them, and no conditioner. They are soft and shiny and smell good, but I will add that we have high humidity here so dry coat or skin is not an issue.
I think it is much more important for those dogs that get a bath every week to have a mild product, but for the semi-annual basenji-bath, no big deal for us!

Anne, your first statement is hilarious! Everyone knows you are the best dog mom in our basenji group which is why I drive you nuts every time I have a problem with my girls - and you are completely right - given the times our kids need baths, it really doesn't matter so long as it doesn't get in their eyes.

  • Thank you everyone. I think im even more confused now, lol

  • I use (when necessary because of a muddy Kipawa) Furminator brand Puppy's First Bath. It's really gentle and has a barely negligible fragrance, which I like, because I love the natural smell of my Kipawa.

  • I use Martha Stewart's hypoallergenic Lanolin Puppy Shampoo. It kinda has an herbal smell, but it's gentle and leave his coat so shiny! You could also use a brightening shampoo if you have a black and white, the shampoos are usually dark blue, the darker the color , the better shine.
