• I use a 26 footer for 110lb dog for tape strength. Works great but you must be careful walking along a busy street in that the B could dash out in front of a car. I also reel him in close when approaching another person passing with a dog as you don't know if the dogs is aggressive. Works great as far as the dog getting a feeling of off leash and some freedom. The leashes for the bigger dogs are tape vs cord. This is the one I use.

  • Hope really looks as though she is enjoying her long lead. When I use the retractable on mine I do find that they are much more inclined to walk bes=ide me when I ask.

    She is veruy beautiful!

  • @Basenjimamma:

I have had lots of rope burns around my legs and calves from dogs running around me and then taking off chasing something…ouch.

    Ditto.

We now only use the corded extendable for when we put Paco on the balcony to do his "business". We have a 15ft "regular" leash to walk with when we're somewhere where we can let him explore.

  • Where does one buy the Flexi's with the tape? I've never seen nor heard of them.

We've always used the corded Flexi's without a problem. We also used one for a 110#, or larger, dog with Maxx after going through several lighter ones!

Do you have any problems with the tape getting twisted when it retracts?

  • Houston

Linda, they have them at Petco and Petsmart, for sure..called all-tape or all-band flexi.
I have no issues with them twisting..

  • Thanks Petra. I've never noticed them at PetsMart or Petco, but on the other hand, I never knew anything like that existed, so wasn't looking for them. I'll take a look the next time we go to one or the other (the closest one to us where we spent the winters is a PetsMart which is over 65 miles away).

  • sorry, double post.

I have bought 1 at Petco and 1 on Amazon. Amazon was cheaper for a longer leash. Get the Flexi brand.

  • The Flexi ones have a fixture which prevents them from twisting. I'm sure if you entered 'Flexi leads' on line you'd find how to order one.

  • Wow, i didnt know there were rope ones! Ive only ever seen the tape ones before so i guess i never knew i had a choice :p hehe

    @thunderbird8588:

Yes i agree, retractable leads are great. I love the picture of hope wearing two collars, if you've got it, flaunt it 😃
Our big crossbreed dog, Max used to get realy stressed if you removed his collar.

haha awwe. Hope doesnt like it if we take her collar off either and she obviously thinks that more is better lol. she just likes to show off too but will get upset if we take her main collar off.

Ive been weary of this too but on mine i have two buttons (dont know if this is normal, but i see most with only one button). One i push in and it will stop at any point and will not let out anymore until pressure is taken off (so then i can tell her to stop and call her back) also works for when i dont want her on a very long lead and can have it locked up for a shorter lead area but so she still can run around and the second button i have is a lock button so i can lock it in as short as i want (coming up to busy streets, other dogs etc) and have her heel beside me. I like these features though instead of just the one button (push to stop retracting).. But of course use common sense too etc if your coming up to the road have them walk beside you until its safe again. Its also great for working on recall 😃

Ive never had an issue so far either and she has twisted it, it seems to work itself out and i havent had to stop to untwist it at all. On the clip that goes to her collar it can rotate so if the dog twists it, it will fix by the time it retracts, also i dont think it twists as it always has constant pressure on it, even if its light.

  • The Flexi has both buttons.
