  • I don't think Mark is ever on his best behaviour. I have stewarded for him and shown under him and know him reasonably well - he didn't even notice that my then puppy had not yet got two descended testicles (if I'm allowed to say that word!), such was his judging.

He was extremely rude to the Dachsi exhibitors when I stewarded for him and was much more interested in chatting to his admiring followers at the ringside! A complaint was made at that show but I don't think it went further - he has many friends in high places!!

Another interesting fact - he gave Gbala a 1st place although we weren't at the show!!!!

Having said all that I get on quite well with him and he does show some very nice dogs.

Sounds as though you have a good chance, Jess and Maya.

  • I've been under him 3 or 4 times (once not through choice as he was a last minute replacement). I was at the show where he awarded RBD before BD. He also didn't call the dog back into the ring - just passed the card over the tape.
He made such a fuss of Chance last time and gave him BPIB, BD & BOS. He was showing off Chance to a few of his friends. I was really delighted that someone of his standing took an interest in little ol' me.
At LKA that year I spoke to him to tell him how well Chance had been doing in the ring since I last saw him. I was very impressed as Chance had won an RCC & BP at WELKS, BPIS at BCOGB & BOBA and BPIS at an all breeds open show. I told him this and do you know what his reply was?

'So what! Come back and tell me when he's a champion!!!'

I won't waste money going under him again but I wish everyone who is going to BCOGB the very best of luck. It is usually a very nice show.

  • I have watched him judging dozens of times, I just wondered whether he had done a breed show before.

I must admit he does always look like he would love to be somewhere else !!!! but he has never judged any of mine so I can't comment on his actual going over of the dogs. I know he has friends in very high places lol !!!

Well let's see how he copes with having to judge Basenjis all day shall we, be interesting to see his judging technique lol !!!! and what he puts up of course !!!!! Good Luck to you all xx

  • Im not holding out much hope for our results. A second is about the best im hoping for ;) But, i always love the club shows, such a friendly atmosphere and a lovely lunch - perfect!! Much better than the lab or pug club shows!

  • Just curious what judge are you talking about ? :)

  • Yeah, me too :)

  • The judge is Mark Cocozza, affix Freecloud - I'm not sure if he judges outside the UK but he does have an interests in some imported dogs from other countries.

His reply to Benkura is actually quite typical - it usually depends on which of his pals are around!!!

  • I'm glad i didn't waste my entry on him by all accounts. Good luck to everyone else though, i hope it goes well for you despite the reputation of the judge.

I've tried bait and no bait in the ring. I think bait works better for Logan, but not for me. He likes it and responds to it well, but as a new handler it's a pain in the butt. I know what I'm expected to do. Doing it once in the ring is hard. I get caught up in the minute and then forget what I'm supposed to do the next. I once stacked Logan backwards on the table. D'oh! Logan is SUPER food driven and he knows if I have cookies in my pocket. That's all he'll pay attention to. Jumping on the handler is frowned upon. Yes, I know training and time will cure it. Not there yet. Too many hobbies. Showing, breeding, MGBs, stereos, astronomy, motorcycles, family, friends, travel, house, etc. I need more time.
