    Email me privately - address in websites on signature block, but I warn you - Covid has brought Basenji would-be puppy owners out in droves and the few breeders who are having a litter this winter have full waiting lists. Two breeders I know have started on a list for the winter of 2021, inviting prospective owners to meet and become acquainted with Basenjis. I have emails from several people who have already put themselves onto the Rescue waiting list. . . in case a Basenji turns out to be too much once (if) restrictions are lifted. Anyway - we are once more in full Lockdown - and I am just praying they don't close the carparks to the (porous) woods again like they did last time, leaving loads of us scrabbling for a parking spot on the main road close to one of the holes into the forest.

    It depends on the breeder. I come from Rottweiler breeding background... we expose puppies to loud noises, really loud, uneven sources, temp changes, etc etc. Getting one at 8 wks, start off slow. I am sort of shaking my head... grew up around hunters and dogs and none cared... but that was the norm. I did find what looks like a reasonable article that might help. Also, I know you are set on a male... but have you considered an older rescue? Brat, CampBasenji and other rescues might have the perfect dog for you if no puppies are available.     @dmcarty: Understanding however that breeding carriers to clear is the option that allows to include the widest genetic diversity. Breeding only clear to clear reduces the diversity in the population - shade of what happend to the breed during some of the other health concerns like HA, PRA and Malabsorbtion. Hopefully we learned that throwing the baby out with the bath water is not the most effective way of keeping valuable traits while eliminating health concerns. +1…I could not agree with you more!
