Breeders in MD, PA, DE or VA

Basenjis For Sale or Wanted
  • Greetings,
I'm looking for breeders in MD, PA, DE or VA that are planning liters this summer. My family and I are looking to add to the pack…

  • Chances of you finding a summer litter are fairly slim. 90% of Basenjis typically come in season one a year and that is in Sept/Oct, so pups are usually born Nov/Dec. If you go to www.basenji.org and then to the breeder directory, you can find breeders in the areas you are looking or they can refer you to other breeders. Someone might be planning a spring/summer litter if they happen to have a bitch that has more then one season a year.

  • Where did you get your last basenji from? If your pack is a basenji one….

  • Can you tell us more about yourself and your current basenjis? Like Tanza said finding a summer litter are slim, but there are a few out there.

Would love to know more about your current pack, maybe even some pictures. We always love to see pictures of basenjis. And were you got them from as many of our pups are related on one way or another.

This is not the time of year to look for a Basenji in the Northern Hemisphere, let alone in Kent ! One breeder from there is reputed to have said he had enough advance orders for 4 years after the last year's rush to buy a Basenji ! But you could (maybe) get on a waiting list for next March delivery. Email me privately (address in websites on signature block) for a list of breed club secretaries.

As I've said several times in different threads - Covid has brought out a plethora of would-be Basenji owners, not just in UK but across Europe. We are starting to fear dogs being dumped into Rescue when lockdown is lifted and people return to work in offices , having realised there is far more to owning a Basenji than just the facts that they don't bark, are small and keep themselves clean like cats. I have had well over 70 - probably 80 now the weekend's crop of enquiries has been dealt with per email and entered into my notes - and am at a loss to be able to tell them of a single breeder who doesn't already have a waiting list full to overflowing. Anyone posting me privately will receive a detailed response but it won't carry too much hope for this winter.

Definitely go with Tanza's suggestion. Any breeder not listed there probably is not responsible. If you find litters, post here who you are looking at and talk to folks who have their line.

@k1ng87: just a puppy (no show dog, just a pet too), although wouldn't mind an older dog either who is well behaved…I'll be a first time dog owner (my mom never allowed me to have one because of allergies) and heard they are great for individuals with allergies While they are good with some people with allergies, not so with everyone. Because they do shed and they do have dander, they can and do set off reactions with some people.

My husband and I have been talking for a few months about adding a second Basenji to our family (we are the proud parents of a 2 as of this month Basenji mix). We have been watching BRAT but we also are considering going through a breeder, the reason for this is that we feel the best addition to our family would be a puppy under a year old. In our experience our little B girl has done best with puppies that are her size or smaller and she has spent time with since they were puppies (she is 13 lbs) or very mellow fully grown dogs (but even that is iffy). She does great with the dogs she has "grown up with".
