Baby yodels

Basenji Talk
  • We have heard a few baby yodels from Malaika and of course it's so cute.
Yesterday i was trying to sweep up in the garden and she was constantly diving for the brush.
Today she saw the brush propped up, sat near to it and yodelled :D
We have also heard her yodel at other Dogs and cats that are out of reach.

  • Honestly, there is nothing cuter than baby yodels!! It is great that Malaika yodels.

When Liyah was a pup, if the adults wouldn't play with her, she would bring stuffed animals to her reflection in the stereo cabinet and then would dance around and yodel to her reflection to try to get her to play :D:D. Liyah is the big talker of my 3 - when she wants Brando to play, she will pet him on his head and start talking to him - very comical! :D:D Oh, and we call Brando and Liyah the lovebirds because they are so enthralled with each other!

  • Not having a basenji yet, I am in totaly envy - baby yodels from Malaika just must sound so cute. :)

  • I love it when they yodel or voice out! You just want them to do it again and again.

  • We are just starting to get some baby yodels. Usually, when we come down in the morning to let her out of her kennel or right at meal time. Too cute!

  • what an adorable story..thank you so much for sharing your joyous little girl..sure brightens my day some.

  • Yodels or baroos are their happy sound. Now that she knows she can do it she'll do it more often. Kind of takes you by surprise the first time they do it though!! Like how can that sound come out of that little critter?

I have an alpha female basenji and brought a newborn into our family. I was in the hospital for four days (my in laws stayed with dog and horse), when we came home, we had my Mom bring her new boyfriend. He was a great distraction, but also allowed me some alone time with Cricket. When they left, she noticed the baby in the bassinet and was a bit concerned. She adapted to the baby, but I don't leave them alone just in case. Cricket is not nearly as jealous as she was, now that he drops food for her at the table, but she did get a bit jealous for a few weeks. While I was pregnant, I was told that 'the test' was to play baby crying videos on YouTube. How the dog reacts will tell you how they will interact with the baby. Cricket beat the crap out of my phone when I tried… So not a great test! :)

My Red boy, Congo, had an awesome BAROO! We were so happy to hear it every time! He couldn't do it enough for my amusement! I don't remember at what age the BAROO's stopped but I'm thinking 14 or 15. When he was in his prime, I think he yodeled at least once a week. Bandit, my 7 year old tri girl, has never BAROOED in her life! She purrs like a cat and cries like a newborn baby, but never a yodel. Hunter, my 2 year old BRAT tri, has a great yodel. His voice usually cracks mid-yodel. Almost like he was a heavy smoker at some point in his short life! He also had the loudest yawn on the planet!:)

Good for the Gecko. Here in Texas we say it brings good luck to have geckos in our homes. So good luck is coming your way.

Thanks woofless I did take everyones advice and would egg her on and I managed to get her to baroo twice but it took like 5 minutes of voice and I was almost horse each time. lol this was weeks ago now and I havent got her to do it again beside I was exhaused after the effort. I am resigned to a silent dog except for an occational whine. We cant even get her to howl. All my friends think I should be thanking the lord for such a quiet dog but like you I was hoping to get the yodel that I remembered so well as a kid. I havent been to the dog park yet maybe the excitement will get it out of her I hope to get there tomorrow since i'm off work.
