• Oh yes. Definetly. I will have him tested. The people I bought him from told me that he was tested clear. But I wil have him tested anyway.

  • If he was tested then he would have an OFA listing. All tested dogs are listed on the OFA site.

  • I spoke with the breeder and she is sending me the info on the test.

  • @dmey:

I spoke with the breeder and she is sending me the info on the test.

Again, if not on the OFA site, then it was not done… hopefully for you it was

  • Please give all the pedigree information to Sally Wallis who takes care of the Basenji Pedigree Database as it is important to have all Basenjis in it especially the non AKC registered ones. Her e-mail address is sally.wallis@btopenworld.com.

    The website is http://www.pedigrees.zandebasenjis.com/search.html

Who is the breeder of your dog and the sire and dam? I am curious because I have rescued a couple of APRI registered dogs.

  • I just received all the info. The ofa number and everything for the sire and the dam. The sire is clear and the dam is "at risk". What information do you want me to send you. The pedigree registration numbers?

  • I bought him from George and Melissa Howell in Kansas City, MO. They arent "breeders" they just had one litter at home. I will send Sally an email whith the sire and dams info. I havent registered my puppy Ayo yet.

Please note that one who has a litter is a breeder, whether they want to be called that or not.
The reason it was mentioned to send Sally Wallis the information is because that litter can never be picked up through the AKC stud books since the dam is not AKC registered. Sally has built a massive basenji pedigree database and it has been helpful beyond years when looking up pedigrees of rescue dogs, as well as research for breeders.

Do you mind sharing the full names of the sire and dam with us?

Best of luck with your new little one!

  • The sire's name is Beni Kukukut of Delouise and the Dam's name is Jubilee Ruwa Joy

  • Do you know his dam's parents' names?

  • I just searched the sire and the dam in the OFA database and did not get any results. Did you verify for yourself on the OFA site?

  • Yes I checked on the OFA site under Check Status of Existing Order
    Confirmation code:
    For Beni: T1E5V-RC2WA
    For Jubilee: J2BJ2-RAKQU

  • AT RISK does NOT mean Carrier it means AFFECTED. Your puppy is therefore a Carrier. You and the breeder are VERY lucky, since they didn't test until after the breeding, that the sire is Clear otherwise there could have been Affected in the litter.

If you are in contact with them, please urge them to immediately start strip testing their girl as she may begin spilling sugar sooner than later since whelping taxes the body.

  • Do you have Jubilee's parents' names? She is not in Sally's database so I cannot see her pedigree.

    Thank you.

  • I thought AT RISK, meant at risk of developing Fanconi, not ,"already having" Fanconi. I will let them know that they should test to make sure. If I were to breed Ayo it has to be with Dam that tests clear. I am sending her pedigree up to her great grand parents, the same I sent to Sally.

  • I cant send the word file because it is 33k . Her parents names are Sire- Linders Sahara Sound Machine H03-ZA-DG-33838T and DAm -Linders PLaytime Patsy C02-AZ-DG-35847T . If you can give me your email I will gladly send you the rest.
    Thanks

It means that she has genes for it but she may not yet be symptomatic. If the owners are not strip testing regularly she could be fairly far progressed in the disease before they notice what is usually the first outward symptom, increased thirst and urination. It is much better for the dog if onset of symptoms is caught early, such as when they first start spilling sugar, usually intermittently.

  • Does having the genes for it mean she will definetly be symptomatic at some point or that she may become symptomatic or she may not?

  • Though there is a small chance she may not become symptomatic, many dogs who have tested Probably Affected have become symptomatic. I only know of 3 dogs who are over the age of 10 years, tested Probably Affected and are not symptomatic.

  • I Just wanted to say thanks for all thehelp on this subejct. I sent all his info, pedigree and his parents pedigree to the AKC and they have sent me the application for registration. They said they checked and he is eligible for registration with the AKC. I am now filling out the application in order to send it! Thanks .
