Hello,
I found this forum while researching Basenji's. Me and my bf are planning to add a new dog to the family and after months of research and looking at rescues etc we have decided on a basenji. We wont be looking for a dog for a few months but i figured I will join here and read and interact as much as I can in the meantime!
Little about me, im 27, live in Ontario Canada. We own a townhouse. For pets we have a cat, ball python and a 2 year old Olde Boston Bulldogge named Grendel. He is an awesome dog, very high energy and just loves everybody and everything. We want a second dog primarily for ourselves as a companion, but one thing I love about Basenji's is it sounds like they will be able to keep up with Grendel who is extremely high energy and comes from a working dog background.
Other then that Im not very interesting :P My pets are my life, I do work fulltime in insurance but I always look forward to coming home and being covered in kisses and purrs :) -

Cleo is gorgeous. A friend of mine had 2 large snakes and I always held them when I visited - such a cool feel and smooth texture.

Welcome to the forum. Lovely colour on the ball! Grendel is very cute! My cat would fall of the shelf-she's rather clumsy!

Welcome. I know you will find lots of information re quality breeders and healthy dogs on this site.
Glad you found us.
I do have to say, some basenjis have a heavy prey drive, so make sure your kitty is safe, until the new family member is settled. -

For sure I will make sure my kitty is safe. Our current dog doesnt try and hurt the cat but he plays too rough for the cat's liking so we keep them seperated 90% of the time just to be sure.

Starrlamia, Basenji's are hunting dogs in Africa, even to this day. I can't stress to you how much damage a basenji who wants to get a cat, can do.
Its not a matter of chasing them down, its wanting to make them dinner.
Sorry, this isn't nice to read, but they can and will hurt cats if they are not raised with them. -

Sorry, this isn't nice to read, but they can and will hurt cats if they are not raised with them. Thanks I am well aware of that, I own a bulldog and have been fully prepared for keeping the cat and dog seperated 100% of the time since we first decided to get him (almost 2 years ago). I was merely stating my experience with having a dog that already neccesitates keeping the 2 seperated.

My unmet friend, I always assume folks are just asking/telling about "stuff".
I can get conflict at work..so, with doing rescue, I always assume folks have good hearts.
Its all good. What else can I do to help you? You just have to ask..
